There was more success for Hinckley Table Tennis League Junior players when they took part in first session of the Leicester Development League last weekend. Playing under their club name George Ward in this competition, six teams were entered in this preliminary round to determine their league status for the rest of the competition. The LDL is the largest Junior League in the country with 34 teams participating.
Barwell George Ward B playing in Division 1B as determined by last season’s results were in superb form dropping only two games in their three matches. In their first game they defeated Winstanley C by 4 sets to nil, quickly following this up with a 3 sets to 1 victory over Electricity 2 and completing their unbeaten day with another fine win over Knighton Park 3 Tigers again by 3 sets to 1, to top their Division and earn themselves a place in Division 1 proper for the next round of matches. Both Frankie Hallam and Alana Richardson were undefeated whilst third player Tom Kelly won two of his four games.
GWA finished second in their group Div. 1C only losing to eventual winners KP1 Scorpions by 3 sets to 1, beating bothy Electricity 3 and Harborough A by 4 sets to nil. Oliver Wynne dropping just one set, with brother Matt two sets. They will compete in Div. Two in the next round.
GWC also finished runners up in Div. 1 D managing to win one match against KP2 Bears 4 sets to nil, drawing their next against Electricity 1 and losing to Winstanley B 0-4. Callum Dale and Jack Dennis winning three of his four matches, whilst Jack Bennett collected one win from 4. The C team are also promoted to Division 2 for the next round in competition with their A team.
A completely new team Barwell GWE played so well that they won Division 2A by two clear points, finishing on ten points, winning two and drawing one of their fixtures. James Walker was outstanding winning all his games, Bevan Wale losing just one and George Moore collecting two wins from 4. G W E will play in Division 5 in the next round.
GWD found things a little tough winning only one of their three games to finish third in their r league. Nine year old Freya Wynne collecting three wins from her six games and Lucy Dennis collecting one win. They will start in Div. 7 next time around.
Finally another new team Barwell GWF another all girls team acquitted themselves well by finishing second in Division 3, winning four of their matches and losing only once to eventual winners Electricity 5. Alice Cleaver remaining unbeaten with 8 wins from 8, Maisie Dowler-Morley and Eppie Southern collecting three wins each. They are promoted to Division 8 for their next matches.
