Cat “A” continue to press for honours in Division One with a couple of impressive results recently. They mauled Queen’s “C” by 10 sets to nil but Dave Topliss (Queen C) took Brian Hagger (CatA) to five games and Steve Lawton (Queens B) took a game from both Hagger and Jamieson (Cat A) before losing both games. There next match saw them defeat Nalgo by 7 sets to 3 away from home with Rhys Emery outstanding for his maximum.
Goons continue to impress and now look likely to be crowned Champions shortly following a couple of very strong performances. The home match with last season’s champions G Ward “A” saw them run out winners by 8 sets to 2. Both Jason Woodfield and Lucky Obi (both Goons) took all three of their games. Mark Perkins (GWA) defeating Harry White and pushing Obi to a fifth game before going down 11-8.
They followed up this vital win with another good result over Barlestone “A”. Obi (Goons) again winning his three, whilst Adam Pettitt won two for Barlestone beating both Woodfield and White.
A further win over RE Studios by 7 sets to 3 ensures they continue to head the table.
G Ward “B” have had a couple of good results recently, firstly defeating Hugglescote Rams by 7 sets to 3 with Mick Allsop (GWB) winning all three of his sets and this was followed by a draw in a close match with RE Studios1. G Ward "B" led 5 sets to three but a spirited defence by Mark Randle (RES1) and a doubles victory meant RE Studios shared the points in this drawn match.
Queens “C lost by 9 sets to 1 at G Ward B”, with both Daniel Whittaker and Mick Allsop taking all three of their sets.
Cat “B” overcame Barlestone “B” by 9 sets to 1 both Alan Crowson and Andy Searle winning their three for Cat. In their next match Cat “B” could not find a way past G Ward “A” finally losing by 8 sets to 2. Cat “B” then collected a useful win over Hugglescote Rams by 7 sets to 3 with both Steve Bessant and Steve Adams winning three apiece.
Barlestone “B” found it tough in both their recent matches losing 7 sets to 3 against Nalgo for whom Dave Daniels and Pete White were undefeated and suffering a 10 sets to 0 loss to their own “A” team.
Goons currently lead the table, 11 points clear of second placed Barlestone “A2 with a game in hand.
