Midland Vetts League

In the Midland Vetts Table Tennis League, Hinckley has entered two sides this season. In Division 2 Hinckley A have started well, their first match against Coventry A was a tight affair; Coventry raced to a 4 set to 1 lead before Hinckley got into their stride and fought back. The outstanding Nick Raynor (H) defeating Will Pane(C) in straight games, followed by Jason Woodfield (H) overcoming Ikenna Asogora C) followed by Raynor collecting his third win over Mark Rose(C) to level the scores. Asogora beat Pete Jamieson (H) in the ninth set before Woodfield (H) secured the draw with a fine win over Pane(C).

In their next match the A team overcame Derby A by 9 sets to 1. The game was closer than the final score suggests with eight of the sets going to either four or five games.  Alex Mason and Jason Woodfield (both H) being unbeaten by an opponent. After two matches Hinckley A are currently leading the table on 14 points, closely followed by Telford with 12 points.

The Hinckley B team have not done quite as well, losing their first match by 3 sets to 7 to Birmingham B. Russ Pettitt (HB) collecting two wins with another Hinckley league player Clive Stretton also winning two for Birmingham B.

In their second match the “B” team did rather better earning a draw against Birmingham C. Both Phil Jones and Charlie Bateman (HB) winning their three plus the double for the draw. Hinckley B sit bottom but one with 8 points with only Nuneaton B below them on 4pts.

In Division 1of the Hinckley League Cat A continues to press for top spot by defeating G Ward B by 8 sets to 2. Both Alex Mason and Rhys Emery (Cat A) were unbeaten.

Goons proved too strong for Cat C winning by 10 sets to nil.

GW E put up a brave fight against Barlestone B losing by 2 sets to 8. Jon Jacom won his three for Barlestone whist Dave Richardson won the two for GWE.

Barlestone A proved too good for Queen’s Mira running out winners by 8 sets to 2.  Russ Pettitt and Phil Jones (BA) collecting maximums.

Goons currently lead the table with 89 points from 10 games closely followed by Cat A on 83 points also from 10 games
