The Quarter finals of Table Tennis’s Team Handicap Challenge saw four competitive matches to decide which clubs would go through to the semi-finals this week. Queen’s Barwell were at home to Barlestone A, the teams were level at 3 games all before Adam Pettitt (BA) overcame a spirited Jackie Flavell 31-25 to put Barlestone in front by 4 games to three. Queen’s struck back with Alan Morris (QB) overcoming Alex Westerby (BA) 31-19 to again level the scores, before Charlie Bateman (BA) made certain the victory beating Chris Taylor 31-27 to clinch the tie.
Cat A took on Queen’s Mira running out winners by 5 games to 3. Barry Taylor Cat A) despite the handicap winning all three of his matches in convincing style. Dan Hogan (QM) collecting two good wins the Queen’s Mira.
Last season’s winners G Ward A easily overcame Hit’n’ Hope by 7 sets to 2 to coast through to the semi-finals, although the games were decided on the very last points 31-30 in each case.
The final game saw Goons who are still in the hunt to win all three competitions, having already collected the Division One trophy and being in the Final of the Holt Trophy to be played in two weeks, take on the young G Ward D team in Syston. This too was a close affair Goons raced into a 4 sets to 1 lead but G Ward D fought back to 4 sets to three before Lucky Obi (Goons) overcame Matt Wynne (GWD) 31-20 to clinch the victory. Callum Dale (GWD) beating Barry Robinson (G) 31-29 in the final game giving Goons a five sets to four victory. Top man for Goons was Obi winning his three whilst Ollie Wynne took two for G Ward.
The draw for the semi-finals sees Goons play G Ward A and Cat A play Barlestone A.
