RONAN McDONNELL ADDS THE U’18 TITLE TO HIS TALLY

GREYSTONE LLC sponsored the Island Closed Table Tennis Championships which were held recently. However, time ran out before the U’18 competition could be completed, so this was rescheduled and took place at Centre 21 on 12th April.

Unfortunately, the U’16 title winner, Sean Drewry, was unavailable so the five remaining players competed on a round robin basis. Other than Aaron Faragher, all the players were from the first division of the IOMTTA league; so it was no surprise that the divisional title holder from the third flight failed to win even a leg against his more experienced opponents.

The junior top twelve title holder, Hadyn McLarney, went one better by taking a leg off each of his compatriots, but they all hopped through to the top three positions. Danny Hamill was placed third as he lost 9/11, 9/11, 8/11 to Hadyn’s older brother Mason, and also to the overall winner Ronan McDonnell.

Fittingly, the last match of the evening was the title decider between Ronan and Mason, but it was rather a one sided affair as Ronan lost just six points over three fast and furious frames. Hence, McDonnell added the U’18 title to his impressive tally this season which includes the Island Closed Senior Singles trophy, the Barry Callister Memorial Top 12, the first division’s individual title as well as his league winner’s medal with Copy Shop.
