TEARE HELPS SURESTRIKE RAMSEY A CLOSE THE GAP

Following Arbory’s latest emphatic win Copy Shop A’s lead has been cut to two points in the First Division of the DLP Adapted Bathrooms sponsored Isle of Man Table Tennis League. Third-placed Strathallan were narrowly beaten by Surestrike Ramsey A so the gap between them is now nine points. Bottom-placed Tower had a rest week as did the current champions Copy Shop A.

In the Third Division the teachers from King William’s College are now 14 points clear and have a game in hand of second-placed Copy Shop D who had to call upon two substitutes to maintain their momentum. There is a ray of hope for Tower C as the League is likely to convert back to four divisions next season which would mean that the top three teams could all gain promotion.

DIVISION ONE

Arbory (8) Travellers A (1)

Second-placed Arbory were looking for a clean sweep against fifth-placed Travellers but Malcolm Cummings pulled back from 2-1 down in sets to smash past John Magnall 9/11, 11/9, 6/11, 11/3, 11/4.

but other than that he, Stu Douglas and Colin Brown had no success against Sam Bailey, Mike Tamarov or Magnall.

Surestrike Ramsey A (5) Strathallan A (4)

AdamTeare

An Adam Teare hat-trick set fourth-placed Surestrike Ramsey on the road to victory against their third-placed opponents.

Julian Briercliffe and Andy Patterson were the scorers for Strathy although the match between Briercliffe and Rhys Yardley could have gone either way. The score was 9/11, 11/2, 10/12, 11/6, 11/9 to Briercliffe.  Surestrike got over the finishing line as Strathy’s recent signing, Ian Kelly, failed to get his eye in against Yardley and Wael Kassim.

DIVISION THREE

Copy Shop D (8) Copy Shop E (2)

Neil Dudley dusted down his old bat to help out promotion chasing Copy Shop D who were two players short. His hat-trick and a win in the doubles with regular player Jack Christian was added to by his son Josh and also Christian who both beat Pat Halliwell and Sophie Sheard.

KittyThomas1

Kitty Thomas, fresh from her victory in the delayed Christmas Cup scored Copy Shop’s points although it was a bit of a battle with Josh which she won 11/6, 8/11, 11/8, 7/11, 11/7.

Junior Development B (1) Surestrike Ramsey D (9)

Team Yardley were denied a white-wash as substitute Lily Byrne played brilliantly to beat Alex 3/11, 12/10, 12/10, 11/7. All the other matches were settled in straight sets in favour Alex, Dylan and their granddad Jack who clocked-up his ninth hat-trick of the season for fifth-place Surestrike Ramsey D. Lauren Allwright was unlucky to lose a first set tie-breaker 11/13 against Alex and Victoria Watson had a 9/11 leg against Dylan.

Copy Shop F (0) Kings (10)

Tom Keating, Wes Kitching and Matt Crabtree from Kings dealt out their ninth card clearance and have dropped just ten points in their 14 fixtures. Cameron Dudley lost on a third set tie-break to Kitching, his brother Josh made it to a fourth set against Kitching but Leo Doyle went one better only to lose 11/9, 10/12, 4/11, 11/8, 4/11.

Junior Development A (2) Surestrike Ramsey E (8)

Callan Reed and Louis Faragher were JD’s only representatives against fourth-placed Surestrike Ramsey E who therefore started 3-0 up. Reed narrowly lost 9/11 in the final frame in his match with Sally Green and Faragher got even closer to beating Tyler Hannay. He was 2-1 up in sets but was edged out 11/7, 3/11, 11/8, 6/11, 12/14. The JD youngster both beat Lily Byrne and nearly got a third point in the doubles against Green and Hannay who hung on to win 9/11, 15/13, 11/7, 12/10, 11/9.
