INAUGURAL MATCHES VOTED A SUCCESS AT BEMAHAGUE SCHOOL

The First and Third Division relocated to Centre 21 several weeks ago but Second Division players in the DLP Adapted Bathrooms sponsored Isle of Man Table Tennis League have had to wait this Wednesday in order to resume play. Members of the IoMTTA committee and several willing helpers arrived early to prepare the Assembly Hall at Bemahague School and in general the new venue was voted a success.

Top-placed Tower B continued where they had left off and Peel A kept the gap to just five points with another resounding win over lowly Surestrike Ramsey C. Copy Shop B moved up two places to fourth and a strengthened Surestrike Ramsey B are now hard on their heels in fifth-place. The youngsters from Peel B fell back to sixth-place but are eleven points clear of Travellers D who did exceptionally well to hold their own B team to a draw. St Ninian’s lost again so look likely to swap divisions with their counterparts from King William’s College.

DIVISION TWO

Copy Shop C (1) Tower B (9)

Substitute Pedro Cardoso made a successful start on his comeback trail for ninth-placed Copy Shop C. His 11/9, 9/11, 11/8, 11/5 win over Simon Radcliffe was their only victory against top team Tower B for whom Steve Curtis and Dario Mazzotta hit hat-tricks. Max Walker captured a couple of sets but Joe Walters went without. Tower also took the doubles.

Surestrike Ramsey C (1) Peel A (9)

Nathan Walker had match point against Mattie Evans but lost the tie-break and then the final set 8/11. However, fortune found in Evans’ favour as the reverse happened when he met Maggie Mulhern thus securing Surestrike’s only point 5/11, 11/7, 9/11, 14/12, 11/9. Frank Feeney took the first set off Evans but couldn’t consolidate. Young Matthew Emison was not overwhelmed and received some good coaching tips from Malc Lewis, Mulhern and Evans.

Travellers D (5) Travellers B (5)

Travellers D leap-frogged their C team to move into seventh-place as a result of this draw with their B team colleagues who remain third.

MikeDunning

Mike Dunning did the damage for the D team with a fine hat-trick and a doubles win with Alex Buck who picked up their other point 6/11, 4/11, 11/4, 11/6, 11/9 against Colin Barron. Juan Moore and Tommy Cowin both bagged a brace for the B team with Barron ensuring the draw by beating young Jack Mathieson-Nelson.

St Ninian’s (2) Copy Shop B (8)

Matt Harvey exceeded his own expectations by beating the hard hitting Rob Sim over five furious frames and then subdued Freya Melvin for St Ninian’s second point. Kevin Drewry won the hat-trick decider and joined Sim and Melvin to take the remaining points off Mark Harvey and Phil Hennessy who only just failed 6/11, 11/9, 6/11, 13/11, 10/12 in his bid to edge out Melvin.

Peel B (2) Surestrike Ramsey B (8)

The Divisional champion Tim Baker and new signing, Chris Holmes, both scored hat-tricks and won the doubles for Surestrike Ramsey B who moved above their opponents and into fifth-place helped by Kerenza Baker’s 11/7, 11/13, 6/11, 11/9, 11/8 battling performance against Sasha Thomas. Nathan Evans and Harry Walters purloined Peel’s points with last gasp wins over Kerenza.
