Ken Page Christmas Cup - Feb16

Ken Page Christmas Cup – February 2016

The Ken Page Christmas Cup was played at the end of February having been postponed in December due to the weather. Consequently, numbers were down on the original entries but it was a fun filled day for those players who did take part.

In the under 12 age group there were nine players split into two groups. In group A Matthew Emison emerged as the winner with Cameron Dudley the runner up.  Unlucky not to go through to the knockout stages were Dylan Yardley, who had pushed Emison all the way to the fifth frame, and Junior Development’s Lauren Allwright.

Group B saw Kitty Thomas go through as winner with Tiernan Garvey in runner-up spot. The losers in this group were William Shooter, John Minay and Josh Dudley.

The first semi final Thomas took on Cameron Dudley who won the first end, but Thomas fought back to win in four fast sets.  The other semi was a tighter match with Garvey pushing Emison to the final frame where he just lost out 9/11. It could not have been closer!

The final between Thomas and Emison started and finished on a tie-breaker, both of which Copy Shop’s Kitty Thomas won, so she took the title 11/13, 5/11, 11/6, 10/12.

The Under 14‘s were also split into two groups. Jack Craik went through as winner having won all his games with Callan Reed as runner up. The unlucky losers were Alex Yardley and Louis Faragher.

Group B saw Billy Coulter emerge the winner with Matthew Emison in runner up spot.  Archie Walter and Dylan Yardley didn’t make it through to the knockout stages.

In the first of the semi finals were Craik and Emison, with Craik going through in straight sets. Coulter made it through to the final after beating Callan Reed.

Surestrike Ramsey’s Jack Craik emerged as winner after beating Coulter in straight sets.

Only two players entered the Under 16’s so the final was played between Jack Craik and Alex Yardley. Craik won in straight sets so ended the event with two titles.

Seven players, who hadn’t been involved in the knockout stages of the U’12 and U’14 events, were invited into the Plate competition.  Starting in two groups, the winners of each group went through to the final, which resulted in a close game between Archie Walter and Alex Yardley.  In a topsy-turvy match Walter took the honours 11/8, 11/8, 6/11, 9/11, 11/9.
