On Sunday 12th February the Junior Top 12 took place at the Buchan school. Topping the seedings was Juan Moore who was having a busy weekend after finishing 7th in the previous day’s Senior Top 12 event.

The first round was played in two groups. Group A was won by Juan with five wins and runner up was taken by Kerenza Baker who only lost to Juan. In Group B Sasha Thomas wasn’t troubled winning all five matches in straight sets. Finishing in runner up spot was Freya Melvin with four wins out of her five matches.

These players were to contest the first four places, The first semi final saw Juan beating Freya in straight sets while Kerenza gave Sasha a tough time taking him to the fifth end after being two games up but eventually losing 9/11.

Playing for 3rd place Freya and Kerenza demonstrated some excellent table tennis with Kerenza coming out the winner in four sets.



The final between Juan and Sasha was won in three sets by Juan.

Places 5-8 saw Lily Byrne, Kitty Thomas, Tiernan Garvey and Libby Quaggin take to the tables. The first crossover between Lily and Libby was a straight sets win for Libby. Tiernan and Kitty playing in the second crossover match saw Tiernan coming out the winner in four sets.

5th place was taken by Tiernan after he beat Libby 11/8, 11/8, 11/8. Lily was beaten into 8th place with Kitty winning 11/13, 5/11, 16/14, 15/17.

Places 9-12 were contested by Callan Reed, Louis Faragher, Leo Doyle and William Dalugdugan.

Callan beat Leo and Louis beat William. Callan went on to beat Louis for 9th spot and Leo took 11th place after beating William.  

Final placings:

1 Juan Moore, 2 Sasha Thomas, 3 Kerenza Baker, 4 Freya Melvin, 5 Tiernan Garvey, 6 Libby Quaggin

7 Kitty Thomas, 8 Lily Byrne, 9 Callan Reid, 10 Louis Faragher, 11 Leo Doyle, 12 Willaim Dalugdugan.

Many of these Junior players will be representing the IOM during the summer months by playing in the British Primary School Tournament in Cardiff in April and the Senior Schools Tournament in Jersey in June.
