VIKINGS CONTINUE TO CONQUER
Western Vikings maintain their lead after the third round of the Regional Super Six table tennis series. However, the recent fixtures have changed the standings which are as follows:
Western Vikings have 57 points after three matches. Northern Lights follow with 42 points from 2 matches. In third place are Eastern Eagles who have 34 points from two matches. Douglas Dynamos stay close behind on 30 but they have played a game more. Finally in fifth are Southern Stars who have 17 points after two fixtures.
Douglas Dynamos A (5) Western Vikings A (10)
Andy Patterson secured two points for the Vikings followed by a point from Andy McLarney. However, Rob Sim took a point off McLarney for the Dynamos.
Harry Walters and Ken Hegarty both earned braces for the Vikings by beating Libby Quaggin and Kitty Thomas.
Archie Walter built on this with a win against Josh Dudley however a no-show from his partner gifted Dynamos two, which Pat Halliwell followed up with a win over Walter.
Patterson/Walters and McLarney/Hegarty were the doubles pairings for the Vikings and both combinations secured the wins. Due to the no show, Dynamos were gifted the third doubles.
Douglas Dynamos B (4) Western Vikings B (11)
Julian Briercliffe obtained two for the Westerners however a win each from Jane Kneale and Kevin Drewry over IOMTTA chairman Maggie Mulhern made things equal.
Nathan Evans and Tiernan Garvey regained and increased the Vikings’ lead with braces each against Billy Coulter and Cameron Dudley.
Callan Reed picked up two more for the Vikings along with a point from Louis Faragher. Leo Doyle beat Faragher to secure a point for the Dynamos.
Coulter/Drewry notched up a win in their doubles match for the Dynamos but this was undone when Briercliffe/Faragher and Evans/Garvey both won their doubles matches to improve the Vikings’ tally. This left the overall score 21/9 to the Vikings
Northern Lights A (14) Southern Stars A (1)
An impressive clean sweep was on the cards however Jason Quirk beat Juan Moore to prevent this. Moore went on to beat McFarlane followed by a brace from teammate Tim Baker.
Kerenza Baker and Sally Green both secured braces over Heather Kennett and Darren Shaw.
Alex Yardley and William Dalugdugan picked up two points each to increase the Northern team’s tally by beating Sonja Shaw and Isobel Kelly.
Tim/Kerenza Baker, Moore/Yardley and Green/Dalugdugan all obtained a win when they dovetailed in the doubles to record a comfortable win.
Northern Lights B (10) Southern Stars B(5)
Juan Moore, who filled in for Adam Teare, bagged a win against Keeran Chan who beat Rhys Yardley.
Mike Tamarov of the Southern Stars beat both Yardley and Moore to gain the lead.
Daryl Yardley and Fraser Dametto brought it back by both securing braces over Barry Jenkins and Oliver Ashe to give the Northerners the lead.
This lead was increased when Dylan Yardley claimed two points over Lauren Allwright and Derek Cademy, Allwright pinched a point off Lily Byrne who took one back against Cademy.
Tamarov/Cademy notched up the first doubles however Rhys/Dylan Yardley and Yardley/Dametto increased the Northern Lights’ healthy lead, leaving the overall score 24/6 in the Northern team’s favour.
