Tower B take charge in Division 2 Table Tennis 

 Last week saw the second week of fixtures in the Fun88 sponsored Isle of Man Table Tennis League. 

 Division 1 

 Desmond's Douglas A (0), Travellers A (9) 

 Travellers A trounced the unfortunate Desmonds despite Malcolm Cummings sitting this one out on the sidelines. It was good to see David Lovelady making a comeback for Travellers, stepping in for Malcolm, after a break of several years. He did well on the night, winning all 3 as did his teammates Scott Lewis and Liam Chan. All matches were won in straight sets apart from David versus Jim Travers who played well to take a game off David 11-9. Travellers now sit at the top of the table with 17 points alongside Arbory and Ramsey A.  

Tower A (1), Ramsey A (8) 

A crunching victory for Ramsey in this tie. Some valiant effort by Tower produced little aside from a hard fought point for Will Bayley against Chris Holmes. Will did exceptionally well to come back from 6-2 in the final set to pip Chris at the post 11-8, and take the match with some exciting counter hitting rallies. Will lost in 3 to Rhys Yardley with the last going to 13-15, and lost in 4 to Duncan. For Ramsey, Rhys had an epic comeback against Ken Mitchell who was 2-0 up, only to succumb to some grinding play from Rhys, who took the next 3 games to win the match. Mike Bayley lost his 3 matches but took one set off Rhys. Ken lost in 4 to Duncan Alexander. 3 wins for Duncan and Rhys, and 2 for Chris. moves Ramsey A joint top.

Ramsey C (0), | Arbory (9) 

William Dalugdugan of Ramsey C had a great start against Mike Tamrarov taking the first set 11-9, but Mike steadied the ship and blasted his way back to take the next 3 games comfortably. John Magnall used his short pimple chop and attack style to ease past William, Adrian Slater and Geoff Ball in straight sets. Jason Quirk also had good wins with familiar efficiency in all 3 of his matches. Arbory are now joint top of the table with 17 points.

Ramsey B (3), Copy Shop A (6) 

Sean Drewry continued in stylish form for Copy Shop A, with 3 straight set wins against Ramsey's Tim Baker, Glenn Callow and Wael Kassim. Tim came close in his second game taking Sean to 12-14 before losing that one. Sasha Thomas, playing up for Copy Shop's A team, did exceptionally well on the night, beating Glenn in 4 games, and only losing to Wael in the 5th set in what looked to be a close match. Adam Davies had 2 hard fought wins against Glenn in 4 games, and Wael in 5. He lost to Tim Baker in 4 games. 

Travellers B (4), Strathallan (5)  

John Shooter had 3 excellent wins for Travellers against Julian Briercliffe in 4 games, Andy Patterson in 3 games, and Wayne Taylor in 3. William Shooter played well in his matches taking games off Julian and Wayne but ultimately losing to them in 4, and to Andy in 3 games. Elsewhere for Travellers, Malc Lewis beat Wayne in 4 close games, but lost to Julian and Andy in straight sets

Division Two

Desmond's Douglas B (3), Peel A (7) 

Home team Desmonds were at a disadvantage with only 2 players on the night, Peter Russell, and Neil Ronan. Neil played extremely well with 3 wins - he beat Stuart Perry and Ken Hegarty in 4, and Ronan Thompson in 5 games. For Peel, aside from the 3 points from the forfeited matches, their points came from Stuart and Ken who both beat Peter in 3 straight, and from Ronan in a closer 4 game affair against Peter.  Peel also picked up a point via their close fought Doubles win, with Ken & Ronan beating Neil and Peter in 5 games.  

Travellers D (0), Tower B (10)  

Travellers had a difficult week against a Tower team that were relegated from Division 1 last year, and are clearly intent on a return after this season.  The evergreen Graham McFarlane won his 3 matches in 3 straight games, as did Simon Radclife and Steve Curtis. For Travellers, Maurice Campbell, Jackie Gill and Ryan Holland who was playing up as a Junior Development Player. Graham then teamed up with Simon to take the doubles from Maurice and Jackie, to make it maximum points for Tower B on the night and position them well in the table.

Ramsey D (1), Peel B (9)  

There were several close games here, but Peel ensured a convincing win on the night. For Peel, Nathan Evans won 3, beating Nathan Walker in 4 games, Charlie Callow in 4, and Sally Green in 3. Matty Evans similarly had a good night with 3 wins, but it was Sally that took a game off him. Maggie Mulhern took 2 points, only succumbing to Nathan Walker in 3 games. The Doubles was won by Nathan and Matty in what appeared to be a convincing 3 game win. Peel B now sit second in Division 2 just ahead of their A team. 

Copy Shop C (6) v Travellers C (4)  

The home team had a good win here against a weakened Travellers C team who were one player short. Paul Matthieson-Nelson had 3 good wins with a 3 set victory against Grant Paterson, Sasha Thomas in 4 games, and a battling Kevin Drewry in 5 close games. Adrian Tinkler defeated Grant in 3 games. The match was decided by the doubles however which went Kevin and Sasha's way in 4 games against Paul and Adrian. 

Tower C (3), Copy Shop B (7)  

Copy Shop fielded step up player Rob Wright, who acquitted himself rather well. He beat Mike Chapman in 4 extremely close games and Margaret Forsyth in 3 but lost out to Steve Curtis in 4 games. Sonja Shaw had straightforward wins against Mike and Margaret, but came up against stiff competition in the form of Steve Curtis who chopped and pushed his way to victory over 5 close games. John Paul Bannaq had a similar experience as Copy Shop's third player, beating MIke in 3, and hard bat player Margaret in 4 games. John Paul then lost to Steve in 4 close games. The doubles went to Rob and Sonja in 4 games, with the third going to them 15-13, and the fourth 11-9.  

Division Three

Ramsey G (3), Ramsey E (7)  

Wilma Dalugdugan was the star of the night with 3 great wins for Ramsey E against Megan Lord in 3 games, Martyn Howard in 5, and Geoff Burchill in 5. Her match against Martyn was a tight affair that went to 14-12 in the 5th. Francesca Lord added 2 excellent wins for the away team against Megan and Geoff, but lost out to Martyn in 4. Lisa Lord then had an excellent win against Martyn in 4 games, and against Geoff in 3 games. The other Battle of the Lords resulted in a win for Megan against Lisa in 5 close games. In the Doubles, Martyn and Megan gelled well to turn over Wilma and Francesca in 3 games. 

Copy Shop E (9), Copy Shop D (1)  

Ege Niiazi had a great night to beat Darren Shaw and Pat Halliwell in 3 games, and Jake Saulnier in a topsy turvy 5 set tussle. Corbyn Schade did even better with straight sets wins in all 3 matches. Daniel Levine did well to defeat Jake Saulnier in 3, and Pat in 5 close games, only to fall down against Darren in 4 games. Daniel and Ege took the doubles in 3, and took Copy Shop's E team to joint top in the table with 14 points.  

Ramsey F (6), Peel C (4)  

For the home side, Mathew Bell had 2 good wins against Amit Lannin in 4, and Bob Borland in 4, with the last finishing 12-10. Matthew succumbed to Vlad Lannin in 4 contrasting games. Ryan Holland had a tough test but showed great determination and focus to beat both Vlad and Bob in 5 games, with the last game against Bob going to Ryan 13-11.  Tom Tsitsos then beat Bob in 3, but lost to Amit and Vlad in 3 games. The Doubles went to Ryan and Matthew in 3 against Amut and Vlad which secured the win for Peel C.
