Welcome Message From Our Chairman...
Welcome to the JLM Table Tennis Academy. The club was founded by John Mytton in 2013 and is now run by myself, Luke Moffat and a dedicated Executive Committee.
It’s extraordinary to think that we’ve only be operating under the ‘JLM’ banner for just over twelve months and have already achieved so much. As we embark on our next chapter, let us not forget of where we started.
John Mytton began coaching at this venue in the 1970s. Some forty year later in 2013, Wallace House entered its first team into Division 1 of the Evesham League. It proved to be a challenging season for the Hussars where they came 10th. Ever determined, John sought to constantly improve the club. I was lucky enough to be recruited back to Wallace House by John in 2014 after having spent six years away from the area. The club was able to have two teams that season; Wallace House Hussars in Division 1 and Troopers in Division 2. Hussars came in 7th Position and Troopers clinched the title and was the start of a three year domination at the top of Division 2.
In 2015, John entrusted me with the task of taking over the day-to-day running of the club. I wanted to make him proud. Once again, the club was able to better its performance from the previous season. In Division 1, with the new name of the Avengers, the team managed to come 5th overall with the help of new members, Lee Wilkinson and Chris Lane. In Division 2, the Troopers once again won the title with an even bigger margin.
Last season began tinged with sadness at the loss of our founding member. The JLM Table Tennis Academy was created and we spent the season honouring his legacy. We increased our teams by double, we had team shirts, new lighting (thanks to John), new members joined us, most noticeably, Mark Hale and Kevin Taylor. In the space of a season, we became the dominant force in Evesham Table Tennis winning both Division 1 & Division 2.
As we look ahead to the upcoming season, I am honoured to be surrounded by such an enthusiastic Executive Committee. We will have six teams operating under the JLM Academy, 5 in the Evesham league and 1 in the Stratford league. This marks the first time that we have ventured into another league apart from Evesham. We have strong social media presence and a well-used website. Our equipment is being replaced thanks to new Sponsors and the generosity of some of our members.
I was honoured that John trusted me to look after the club that he started some forty years ago, and I’m certain that he’d be proud of how the club has transformed into Evesham’s leading Premier Table Tennis Club. I look forward to seeing what many successes and achievements will come with the 2017/18 season.
Luke Moffat, 2017
