Match report - February 13th 2017

Dalton A on top

Dalton A cemented their position at the top of Division 1 of the Kendal & District Table Tennis League, with a resounding 9-1 victory against their own B team. Jonathan Lowes was imperious and ably supported by Keith Dymond and Ben McDonald, who was also unbeaten. Gareth Brunton salvaged a modicum of pride for Dalton B with a hard fought 5 set victory over Keith Dymond in the final singles match of the evening. Burton A consolidated third place with a 6-4 win against Crook A, who now look guaranteed another season in Division 1. Chris Knowles, albeit slightly rusty following his travels to the Southern hemisphere, was the man of the match with 3 wins in the singles.

Burton D put a large dent in Dallam A’s seemingly relentless march towards the Division 2 title with a shock 9-1 victory. Martin Wakelin and Mike Gregory were on top form for Burton and only a late show of defiance from Thomas Parkinson prevented a whitewash. However, Burton D’s hopes of a top two finish were dealt a heavy blow following an 8-2 defeat by Crook B, for whom Matt and Ben O’Flynn were unbeaten. Matt O’Flynn was largely untroubled but both Martin Wakelin and Tony March came within 2 points of beating Ben O’Flynn, without being able to get over the line.

Grayrigg lead the way in Division 3 but were pushed all the way by Dallam C, for whom the evergreen Norman Philbey produced a man of the match performance with 3 wins in an 18-16 defeat.

Over the forthcoming half-term holiday, the League will be running an Open Junior Tournament at Kirkby Stephen Grammar School. The tournament will run from 1-5 on Thursday, February 23rd 2017 and is open to any junior player which would like to participate in a fun afternoon. Please see the League website for details (www.tabletennis365.com/Kendal).
