Dalton victorious in the clash of the titans

Dalton A consolidated their position at the top of Division 1 of the Kendal & District Table Tennis League with a 6-4 victory over their arch rivals IBIS. Steve Dixon suffered a rare defeat at the hands of Jonathan Lowes, who maintained his unbeaten record for the season. A special mention is reserved for Trevor Nicholson, the IBIS number 3, who secured 2 vital points with monumental 5 set victories over Keith Dymond and Ben McDonald, without which IBIS’ title challenge would have been all but over. Dalton A require 19 points from their final 2 fixtures to be certain of retaining their title.

In Division 2, Natland D’s hopes of finishing in the top two were dealt a severe blow by Burton B, who left with a 7-3 victory. Bryan Rhodes was on top form for the Burton team, winning all 4 of his matches in straight games. Rinaldo Columbi won 2 singles matches for Natland but made little impression on Rhodes.

In Division 3, Dent stayed in touch with leaders Grayrigg and Crook C, with a comfortable 23-16 win against Kirkby Stephen C. Steve Hawley was once again man of the match with 3 victories in the singles. Dent still look capable of promotion but are running out of time in their quest to complete their matches before the end of the season.
