10 Year Old is the Surprise Package

Competitive play has resumed in the Kendal & District Table Tennis League. The first round of the Summer League was played at Natland Table Tennis Club on May 23rd. The League is split into 2 divisions and Division 1 was won by Burton’s Chris Knowles who remained unbeaten throughout the evening. Runners-up in Division 1 were Phil Swift of Crook Table Tennis Club and Natland’s Tamas Bacsi. The star of the show, however, was Kirkby Stephen’s Jake Haygarth, only 10 years of age, who finished 2nd in Division 2, with a win rate of 83% and thereby earned promotion to Division 1. Jake is an excellent little player and looks like being a star of the future. Natland’s Mick Taylor finished top of Division 1, with a 100% win rate, and will also play in Division 1 in the next session. 17 players competed in the first Summer League session. There is still room for a couple of extra players and anyone interested should contact Mick Taylor at Natland Table Tennis Club.

As regards social table tennis, the Kendal Table Tennis Club completed a very successful first month at the Kendal Leisure Centre, with 8 members now signed up and playing regularly each Tuesday evening. This is a fun environment, at a great venue, with everyone trying to enjoy it and improve their table tennis. We are still looking for 6 more members. Anyone interested in ‘coming and trying it’ should email tony@lonsdaleconsulting.co.uk or text 07814 029471 to reserve a place.
