Dalton back in the hunt

Another exciting week’s play in Division 1 of the Kendal & District Table Tennis League saw Burton A consolidate their position at the top with a solid 21-14 victory against Kirkby Stephen A, despite 3 more singles’ wins for Kirkby Stephen’s Jake Haygarth. Burton won the other 7 matches to clinch their 9th win in 10 matches. Meanwhile, defending champions, Dalton Cricket Club, re-entered the title race following their 22-16 defeat of title favourites Natland A. A hat-trick of wins for Roger Pimblett could not prevent a very strong Dalton team, of Stephen Bushell, Matty Rigg and Tony Whitehouse from returning north with a hard earned victory. As we approach Christmas, Burton B and Natland B occupy the 2 relegation slots and both have a lot to do in the second half of the season.

In Division 2, the big three of Crook B, Natland C and Natland D continue to carry all before them. After 10 matches, Crook B lead Natland C by 7 points, with Natland D a further 6 points behind. Crook B defeated their own C team 29-5, winning all 9 singles matches but suffering a rare defeat in the doubles when Mike Taylor and Rin Colombi were defeated 11-8, 8-11, 4-11, 11-7, 15-13 by a jubilant Andy Gilchrist and Hugh Simmons.

Forthcoming events include the annual Junior Tournament which is to held at Burton Hall on Friday, January 4th and the annual Divisional Shield event which will take place at Dallam School Sports centre on Sunday, January 13th.
