Match Report

A cracking match between these neighbours.

The match was also notable for teammates playing each other for the first time, Tim, Neil, and Scott all play for Sturdee I in the Medway League and we think Tim has never faced Neil or Scott at the other end of the table before.

The first game set the tone for the match when it went to five as four more also went to five. Three others went to four, leaving only two finishing three straight. Will beat Graham 90 ITF

Tim then faced Scott and the latter never settled losing in dour. 2-0 Maidstone.

Rachael faced Neil and in a ding dong game went from 10-6 up in the fourth to win it to losing in five. 2-1.

The first three straight saw Tim playing Graham and the latter’s pimples upset Tim’s game so score tied, 2-2.

Neil then faced Will and in another 4 legger Neil ran out the winner but only after losing two legs 12:10. 2-3.

Momentum with Medway and Scott found his mojo to win in 3. 2-4.

A pivotal game followed with Neil involved in yet another five legger, this time against Tim. This see-sawed, 0-1, 1-1, 1-2, 2-2 (14-12) then 3-2 (15-13) after Neil had a serve to win it at 10-9 and served off! 3-4.

Rachael then took on Graham and lost the first leg 14-12, came back to win the second but then Graham took control to take Medway to a minimum of a draw. 3-5.

Will then took on Scott and once again Scott was never comfortable and Will took it in 4. 4-5 and it meant the doubles would decide the result, an away win or a draw.

Unfortunately for Medway, with three left-handers in the team, there was never going to be a comfortable pair but Graham and Neil gave it their best. However Tim and Will just won out 11-7 ITF, an inevitable five legger given the match so far.

So another 5-5 draw for Medway to follow their first match against Ashford and taking Maidstone to nine points after their first match loss to Canterbury C.
