Corby Lincoln claimed the Borough Trophy title after a tight win over Harborough D.

Danny Verrall put Harborough one up defeating Callum Donaldson 21-17, 21-18 before Ken Murie and Ken Knott beat Vaughan Allington and Dave Coombs 21-19, 21-18 and 21-19, 21-15 to edge Lincoln 2-1 in front.

Murie increased the lead to 3-1 with some very attacking play taking the decider 21-15 against Danny Verrall winning six points without reply from 15-15.

Coombs, with his usual defensive style, proved too steady for Donaldson and Murie and Knott easily beat Allington to retain Lincoln’s lead.

Knott beat Verrall 21-18, 20-22, 21-16 in a nail biting match to seal victory in game eight and his own personal treble.

Corby Lincoln 5 Knott (+4) 3, Murie (+8) 2 Harborough D 4 Coombs (+7) 2, Verrall (SCR), Allington (+4)

Following the previous evening’s success in the Borough Trophy Lincoln’s hopes of a cup double were dashed by club-mates Lyveden Fields in the Shirley Everard Points Cup final.

Lyveden Fields skipper Chris Haynes was the star player only conceding a miserly 28 points in their 420-382 win.

Ken Murie, Callum Donaldson and Ken Knott won very few points against Haynes' very tricky spin serves and this proved to be the decisive factor on the overall result.

After a slow start, losing 21-2, 21-7 in his first match against Haynes, Knott was again Lincoln’s star player scoring 43 points in his other two matches against Kyle Murie and Henry Arthur.

Corby Lyveden Fields (SCR) 420 Kyle Murie 126/50, Haynes 126/28, Arthur 126/50, Haynes/Arthur 42/14 Corby Lincoln (+240) 382 Donaldson 37/126, Knott 50/126, Ken Murie 41/126, Donaldson/Murie 14/42

The Millman Salver final between Corby Smash A and Westfield B was expected to be a close match but after a slow start Westfield were easily beaten 29-11.

Alex Cochrane defeated Nick Howard 3-1 and Colin Wilson beat Bogdan Capusa 4-0 to give Smash an early decisive lead.

Cochrane won all of his games 3-1 and Wilson won two 4-0 and halved 2-2 with Howard.

The mixture of youth and experience of Wilson and Cochrane limited Westfield’s opportunities and Capusa’s 3-1 success against Gary Pells provided some consolation for an otherwise disappointing performance.

Corby Smash A 29 Cochrane (+4) 9/3, Colin Wilson (SCR) 10/2, Pells (+3) 6/6, Wilson/Cochrane (+2) 4/0 Westfield B 11 Howard (+1) 4/8, Capusa (+1) 4/8, Horrocks (+3) 3/9 Howard/Capusa (+1) 0/4
