Youngsters compete in National Cadet League

14th OCTOBER 2012 - With direction and support from Team Manager Chris Squire, a young and inexperienced Kingfisher side - with an average age of only 12 - performed very creditably  in the National Cadet League at Cippenham this weekend.

Playing in one of the top divisions and competing against sides from Chiltern, Ashford and Horsham, Kingfisher’s team of (from left to right) Alex Squire, Joe Barraclough and Bertie Coombes had to compete against far more experienced opponents.  After losing to a much older Chiltern side, the boys bounced back with a 5-4 victory against Ashford before narrowly going down, in a closely contended battle, to the team from Horsham.  Although everyone had personal successes, Kingfisher’s star performer this weekend was probably Alex Squire, a pupil at Forest School in Winnersh.  Playing in his very first competitive event, 12-year old Alex, led the team with a most respectable 44% win ratio.

For those wishing to watch our juniors competing, the Cadet team (Under-15) will be playing their next matches (all at Cippenham, Slough) on Sundays 18th November, 3rd February and 17 March.  The Junior side (Under-18) will also be playing at Cippenham in the National Junior League, over four Saturdays, on 20th October, 1st December, 26th January and 2nd March - for further details contact Chris Squire (Cadets) or Nick Heaps (Juniors).
