DIVISION ONE WEEK FOUR
RUSTON A welcomed the club with one of the historically original league names, ST PETERS .
For Ruston’s Bob O’Hara had a very fine win over Peter Banks by 11-9,11-9,6-11,11-4. Mick Johnson too was on fire in beating Peter in five games and Tony Turner in four.
However for the St Peters team Peter Mackie showed all his old class with three fine singles wins.
The result was that St Peters squeezed their way to a 6-4 win.
KEAL MADRID left their battles in Spain to take on the Greek goddess’s team ,OLYMPIANS.
Finlay Keal for the Keal’s achieved an excellent win over Andy Cullen and went very close to beating Jack Blyth ,only losing 11-7, 11-4, 8-11, 10-12,11-6.
Ian Sleight for the Keal’s took on his nemesis the famed “Andy Wiggy Wignall” and had a terrific match ,only losing after five, by 11-6, 10-12, 11-7, 8-11, 11-4 and beat Jack Blyth in four.
Three wins for “Wiggy”, two for Jack and one for Andy, plus the doubles ,saw the Olympians remain in the heights ,at the top of the league.
CRUSADERS A took on THE SLAPPERS. Top slapper Clive Mitchell had excellent five game victories beating Dan Otter by 10-12, 14-16, 11-4, 11-3, 11-7 and the thespian, Matt Hewitt by 11-6, 9-11, 3-11, 11-9, 12-12 in the evening’s best match. Son Ryan too had a fine win over Matt in four games.
The A’s proved their mettle though in a 7-3 victory with the star player being Dan Rimmer who won all his three singles and the doubles match too.
FANTASTIC FIVE hosted the PSYCHO-DELICS, for whom Derek Wood was again their shining light with three comfortable wins.
Fantastic Fives’ James and Karl Wynne and Ben Applewhite were all too strong with two wins each and a doubles win . The result a 7-3 win for the Fantastics.
MARKET RASEN RACERS played CRUSADERS C in a very close battle to the finish. C’s Bill Holmes came back to top form with two fine singles wins helped by one each from Daren Thorpe and Rob Trevethick. It was the Racers who hit the finishing line first however with three wins again from Lesley Keast and two from the ever improving Nic Keast. The result 6-4 for Racers.
MARKET RASEN WARRIORS were home to CRUSADERS B. B’S “Duddy “ Dudman had a battle royal with Mick Tindall , winning by 11-4, 11-6, 8-11, 8-11, 11-5.
Junior Jack Bradley too for Warriors had a close encounter with Roy harper , winning by 8-11, 8-11, 11-6, 11-9, 12-10 and he also eased to a win over “Duddy”. Three wins for Paul Moore were not enough to stop the two wins from Anthony Tindall and one from dad Mike , warriors taking the match thanks to a thrilling five game doubles . the result 6-4 to the Warriors.
DIVISION TWO WEEK FOUR
ST PETERS C entertained RUSTONS B and despite a close encounter in the doubles which went to five games, the Ruston’ss juggernauts proved too strong in a 10-0 win.
IMPS were hosts to MISFITS. Imps captain Malcolm Scott was in sparkling form as he recorded three singles wins, Anindya Basu was also at his entertaining best with three wins too. Misfits , Danny Mckay and Lex and Nicholas Robinson battled hard in a 6-4 win for the IMPS.
ST PETERS B were the home side versus ASSASSINS. Dave Salmon was star for the B’s with a fine win over David Arnold and defender/chopper extraordinaire Dave Renshaw had extremely close matches in all his singles.
Andy Smith and Mike Willis were both star ASSASSINS with wins in all their singles and the doubles match too. The result a 9-1 win for Assassins.
CRUSADERS E hosted CRUSADERS UNBEARABLES and put up a very good display, Iain Hicklin taking the scalps of the Harris family and Ian Minogue gaining a fine win over Dave Harris 6-11,12-10, 11-8, 11-9. Junior Calvin Lee on his debut too took both members of the Harris family to five games. Unbearables number one Barry Johnson , the league’s oldest player took all his singles matches and the doubles too with Shaun Harris, who also won two singles. The result a 7-3 third win of the season for the astonishing UNBEARABLES.
