Message from the Chair- Coronavirus

Dear Members

First of all I trust you & your families have kept yourselves safe during this unprecedented time.

For many of us who are the most vulnerable, of course, the worry of contracting the virus has never been too far away from our minds. On the plus side, the period of lock down has presented us with different opportunities in terms of how we have spent our forced isolation & leisure time.

For those who work or who have businesses to manage, there has been the financial worry of keeping those jobs & how the prolonged shut down will affect you in the longer term, and for those living alone, the anxiety of not being able to contact family & friends.

Reflecting on all these things & the tragedy suffered by lives lost, really does bring me to realise just what my leisure time & the sporting activities brings to my life, not only just the physical exercise but more importantly the friendships that I have made & the camaraderie that ensues.

So the main reason for contacting you all is simply to say " are you keeping?" with a click on the elbow instead of the usual handshake of course.

I would also like to keep you informed, that the Committee is keeping in touch (via email) discussing how we might prepare for an eventual return to Table Tennis.

We are obviously led primarily by Government Guidelines and the staged process of unlocking activities. We will also be taking advice from Table Tennis Wales (our governing body) and our primary concern at all times will be the safety & well-being of you the Members of LTTL.

Our thoughts will be about last season & whether to try to finish that before starting a new one.

We will also have to decide when & how our Annual General Meeting will take place and whether we will be able to have that within the normal timescales  (ie before 31st August) in the normal way, virtually or take the decision to postpone it to a later date.

Any re-commencement will, of course, require lock-down rules regarding interior sport to be relaxed. This may be at different stages depending on the type of venue which each club uses. Social clubs, Community Centres, village Halls & Schools may re-open at different times. And, of course, social distancing rules & sanitisation procedures may still be in place.

My message is designed to keep you informed as far as I am able & to let you all know that as a Committee out thoughts are firstly with your health & well being and secondly preparing as best we can for a return to the sport we love so much.

Take care & best wishes

Paul Collins
