FORMAT (Points System)

All players have been individually handicapped, so each individual game will have a handicap start and will be played up to 21. The winner will be the team with the most points at the end of match 10.

The full team needs to be declared at the beginning of the match. A fourth player is eligible to play in the doubles, if stated at the beginning of the match (as per rule 14.1 in the handbook).

Singles

Two games only to each set, points being scored up to 21. Five serves each (as per the old table tennis laws). No deuce game will be played and the game ends when the first player reaches 21. The total points gained by each team shall be added up.

Example A : Player A (Group 7) v Player X (Group 15). Subtract the higher group from the lower group to determine the difference. Then refer to the handicap sheet (Diff in rating is 8 equals a start of 8 to player X). When the game starts the player serving 1st, would serve twice, then each player will have 5 serves each. Repeat this process for each game.

Example B : Player A (Group 9) v Player X (Group 15). Subtract the higher group from the lower group to determine the difference. Then refer to the handicap sheet (Diff in rating is 6 equals a start of 6 to player X). When the game starts the player serving 1st, would serve four times, then each player will have 5 serves each. Repeat this process for each game.

Doubles

Two games only to each set, points being scored up to 21. Five serves each (as per the old table tennis laws). No deuce game will be played and the game ends when the first player reaches 21. The total points gained by each team shall be added up.

Add the groups for both players selected for each team, then divide the total by 2 (to obtain their group). Then refer to Handicap Sheet. Subtract the higher group from the lower group to determine the difference. Then play as per singles. If the difference is point 5, you round up to the higher group.

Please ensure both team captains are happy with the handicap start before each match.

In the event of a tie there shall be a replay, the away team having the choice of venue. Home team captains must contact their opponents to inform them if their match is not going to be played on the normal home night. All players registered prior to 30th October, who have played one league match in the proceeding or current season are eligible to play and additional players can apply for a handicap when they have played in one league match. All teams who have played once and lost in the senior cup will play in the consolation cup competition stating in the week commencing 26th February.

Please note – You must play in the main cup to qualify for the Consolation Cup. If you concede in the main cup you are out of the competition (see Rule 16.5).

Please note Rule 16.6– A Player can only play for the team they are Registered for. You cannot play up in the cup.
