Tsaptsinos and Walker exit in Spain

Maria Tsaptsinos and Sam Walker have gone out in the last 64 and last 32 respectively at the Spanish Open.

Sixth seed Walker was seeded straight into the knockout rounds and started with a 4-2 victory over Birdie Boro of India.

Up against Switzerland’s Lionel Weber (WR 157) in the last 32, Walker twice trailed after losing tight first and third games, but he looked to have got himself out of trouble when he came back to lead 3-2. However, Weber took the last two games 11-7 and 11-6 to advance to the last 16.

Tsaptsinos won her group in style to set up the tie against Chile’s Paulina Vega, seeded 26th, in the last 64. And it was a close tie as Vega won in six, including taking the third and fourth games on deuce.

In the Under-21 Women’s Singles, Emily Bolton was defeated in three straight in her last-16 tie against top seed Lisa Lung of Belgium.
