Match Report Week 2 2017-18

Premier Division

The second round of matches is already behind us apart from the East Manchester TTC Falcons vs Smithy Green TTC match which had to be postponed.

The University Of Manchester Staff 1st played Birley Moss 1st at home and, despite trying their best to stop the champions, only Rafael Assier managed to take any points off them by picking up a very good win against Mark Ramsbottom. The University Staff also managed to win the doubles. Birley Moss gave a very strong performance as usual with Miles Benjamin winning a solid 3 points and the Player of The Match award. Kyan Chin also won maximum points, meaning the match ended 2:8 in favour of Birley Moss 1st.

Birley Moss 2nd met a strong Brookway 1st team with the Player Of The Match, Keith Deaville, in top form and gaining a maximum three wins including what seems to have been a close 5 set encounter against Winston Duff Winston scored 2 for Birley, and Kal Ahmed added one by winning 13-11 against Anuu Batbold in the fifth set. The match finished 3:7 in favour of Brookway 1st.

The Albert 1st met newly promoted Hollinwood TTC at home and completed a very convincing 10:0 win with Player Of The Match Mak Khan on top form.

Affinity 1st and 2nd had the week off and the opportunity to prepare for their next fixtures.

Division 1

The second week of Division 1 was again very interesting.

Christie Hospital hosted Affinity TTC 3rd and, despite Edward Darlington offering a hint of resistance by winning against Andrea Kennedy and partnering Awais Qureshi to success in the doubles, Affinity still came out on top with excellent performances and full points from Andy Wilson and Ivan Kouril, who was awarded Player of The Match. Affinity TTC 3rd won 8:2.

Brookway TTC 2nd hosted the Albert 2nd and proved to be the stronger team on the night with each Brookway player having two wins and also adding the doubles. Ian Gerrard appeared to be the player with the most efficient win/lost sets ratio and was awarded the Player of The Match despite losing a game against Patrick Haggerty who did really well in beating Ian 3:0. Brookway won 7:3.

The Albert 3rd team met East Manchester TTC Hawks and Myron Monteiro provided an outstanding performance with 3 wins and Player of the Match. Bob Dale also had 3 wins which, along with the two wins from Peter Hawley, who was beaten by Barry Jackson, and the doubles meant that Albert 3rd won 9:1.

Well done and congratulations to all the above teams.
