The teams, which on paper, are in contention for the first division title of the Middlesbrough and District Table Tennis League, opened their fixtures last week, all with big wins.

Swerve A with Steve Brunskill, Josh Harland, and Nuradin Muktar defeated  their own C team by 10-0.

Ormesby A with Dave Ashwell, David Gofton and Peter Wilkinson, beat Nunthorpe also by 10-0.

Swerve B who were in contention for the title last year, defeated Beaumont Nomads B by 10-0 with hat tricks from Mark Simon, Andy Wilson and Alex Garlick.

Ormesby B with Carl White, Karl Shaw and Gary Whyman beat East Cleveland by 8-2, with Jimmy Scope beating Shaw and Whyman, whilst Ormesby C with hat tricks from Kieran Wardell and Will Dobinson beat East Cleveland A 8-2.  Steve Souter and Ann Pashley overcame George Hill.

The other team that is in contention is Beaumont Nomads A.  They were not included last week’s results.

All of this bodes for an extremely strong first division of the Middlesbrough and District League and heralds what the prospects have been a very hard fought championship race going through to the end of season.
