With an 8-2 defeat against Swerve A, Beaumont Nomads A’s chances of staying in the championship race for the 1st Division of the Middlesbrough and District Table Tennis League took a knock in last weeks’ fixtures.

Swerve was dominant with hat tricks from both Alec Ward and Nuradin Muktar, only Mark Walpole was able to take a single game from the two Swerve players.  The two wins for Nomads were by Anthony Phoenix and Mark Walpole who both beat Sam Bailey.

This result means that Beaumont trail the leaders by 23 points.  This is a big margin to recover in the second half of the season.

Swerve B kept their interest in the championship with two victories beating Nunthorpe A by 10-0 and Swerve C team by 9-1.  Against Nunthorpe Dan Welsh, Andrew Wilson and Alex Garlick all scored hat tricks.  Garlic’s victory over Steve Burge was by a narrow margin in the deciding game.

Against Swerve C Welsh and Wilson both scored hat tricks whilst Jevon Chan won 2, losing only to Sophie Barlow by 3 games to 1.  Swerve B trail their first team by 2 points, but have played one match more.

Ormesby A remain in contention after their 10-0 victory against bottom of the table East Cleveland A.  Dave Ashwell, David Gofton and Peter Wilkinson all scored hat tricks.  The match was not as one sided as the score line suggests, as the three East Cleveland players Paul Flanagan, Anne and David Pashley, took games from the Ormesby trio.

Ormesby A is currently in fourth position in the table with 49 points from seven matches.
