Swerve A improved their position at the top of the 1st Division of the Middlesbrough and District Table Tennis League last week with a 7-3 victory over Ormesby B.

Alec Ward was the star of the match scoring a hat trick and combining with Sam Bailey to win the doubles. Sam Bailey won two singles which included a victory over Michael Young at 11-9 in the decider.

Jemal Mohamed won one for Swerve beating Thomas Rayner by 3-1.  For Ormesby, Young won one beating Mohamed, Tom Rayner won one beating Sam Bailey, and Karl Shaw defeated Jemal Mohamed.

Beaumont Nomads Accountancy A team improved their position in the table with a 7-3 victory over one of their closest rivals, Ormesby A.  Anthony Phoenix and Mark Walpole both scored hat tricks and combined to win the doubles, whilst for Ormesby, David Gofton, Dave Ashwell and Peter Wilkinson all defeated Stephen Baines.

In the bottom half of the division Beaumont Nomads B defeated East Cleveland B by 7-3 despite a hat trick from Jimmy Scope.  Tony Langley, Barry Pearson and Kevin Linsley all won two for Nomads.

The result gives Swerve A a clear lead at the top of the division with 79 points from 9 matches, with Swerve B in second place with 76 points from 10 matches.
