The battle for the 1 Division of the Middlesbrough and District Table Tennis League intensified last week when two of the main challengers Ormesby A and Swerve A played a 5-5 draw.

At the same time Beaumont Accountancy Nomads improved their chances with a 10-0 victory over Nunthorpe A.

A hat trick from Joe Cope helped Ormesby A secure the draw against Swerve A, with Jack Cope and George Hill winning one set each.  For Swerve Alex Ward and Josh Harland won two each.  Cope’s win against Harland was the closet set of the match, winning 12-10 in the deciding game.  Harland also had a close set with Jack Cope winning 11-8 in the 5th.

Beaumont’s victory against Nunthorpe A saw hat tricks from Mark Walpole, Anthony Phoenix and Stephen Cooper.  The closet set was with Cooper against Nicky Corking at 11-8 in the decider.

There are now four teams in strong contention for the title.  Swerve C lead the table with 72 points but have played one match more.  Only 1-point divides the next three teams with Beaumont on 69 from 9, whilst Ormesby A and Swerve A are on 68 points.
