A 6-4 victory for Beaumont Accountancy Nomads A over Swerve A in the championship race for the first division title of the Middlesbrough & District Table Tennis League meant that both teams lost valuable points in their bid to clinch the title.

For Beaumont, Anthony Phoenix and Steve Cooper did well to win two sets each whilst Mark Walpole won one. Phoenix beat Will Dobinson in straight games and Josh Harland by 3 games to 1 but lost to Kieran Wardell at 11 - 7 in the decider.

Cooper had scored a narrow victory over Wardell at 13-11 in the decider and beat Dobinson in straight games but found Harland too strong going down by 3 games to 1

Walpole came close to scoring a hattrick but lost to Wardell at 13-11 in the decider and Harland at 11-8 in the fifth before beating Dobinson in straight games.

For Swerve Harland and Wardell did well to win 2 sets each.

This result improves the chances of the title going to Ormesby A who are currently second place in the table with 104 points from 13 matches.
