WEEK 1 REPORT
The season started off with a lot of exciting games
None more exciting than the top two sides last year meeting in the first match Champions Ashford Hill Ramblers just held off Runners up Thatcham A winning 6-4 Both fielded their strongest side and the top player in each side fought out an epic game with Ramblers Sam Ricks defeating Ross Saxby 13-11 in the fifth game .Ricks won all three and was involved in the doubles win with Steve Murgatroyd .Saxby and Andy Barnes both won twice for the Thatcham side.
Jog made a great start with an easier than expected 10-0 victory over Woolton Hill Badgers with Mark Wheeler, Adam Pacyne and Peter Sinyard all getting maximums with only the doubles going to deciding set.
Another title contender is Kintbury Titans who had a good 8-2 win over Woolton Hill Eagles with Ray Powell and Nat Richardson getting three wins each and combining in the doubles win .
Newly promoted Thatcham Lions had a hard fought draw with Upton Ultraviolets with Patrick Garlick getting a treble for Lions and Matt Davies and Matt Isherwood both getting doubles for Upton. Eddie Haines 12-10 fifth set win over John Gould and a 11-9 final game in the doubles earned Lions a share of the spoils .
Player of the week must be Matt Smith with his fine treble for Jeffernauts which earned them a 6-4 victory against Ashford Hill Misfits His five sets win over Denise Weller and straight sets win over Simon Craig were superb. He was backed up with two wins by Tom Lewis. Weller was Misfits best with a double.
AWE made a good start when taking maximum points with an 8-2 win over Kintbury Cobra's John McLarty was unbeaten but was pushed by Ian Wu but eventually got home 11-6 in the fifth.Bob Harris and George Wilson both had two wins for AWE.Wu won both Cobra's games.
Woolton Hill Wildcats defeated Thatcham Choppers 7-3 but had to dig deep as six games went to five and they won five of them .Alan Fuller won three Archie Dyson two and Max McDougall one . Choppers best was Sajish Pavithan with two good wins and only losing to Fuller 11-8 in deciding set.
Thatcham Scorpions and Thatcham Scavengers had a good tussle with Scorpions winning 6-4 Simon Barter won all his matches three straight whilst Bill Stamatiou won twice . Spartans Thereasa Watson did well to beat Stamatiou in three.
Kintbury Outlaws beat Woolton Hill Woodpeckers 8-2 with new man Ian Ardis and captain John Tanner both getting maximums .
New team of youngsters Thatcham Tornados did not disgrace themselves when losing 8-2 to Thatcham A and E . Bill Bavister won three for the visitors and Loraine Mortimer and Mike Buley won two apiece. Abeil Tarwar and Michael Sopp recorded their first wins and Holly Brown had some good shots for Tornados.
Although Sajish Pavithran won all three Thatcham Dragons could not overcome West Ilsley B who won 7-3 with Lionel Sheppard, Deryck Crossley and Steve Cobrin all winning twice.
Kintbury Insufferables had a great opening win defeating Thatcham Hawks by 8-2 with Bob Nash and Tom Kelly getting trebles and Steve Conners a double . Nash's 11-9 5th set win over Christine Milne was the game of the night
