Trinity School's Eddie Haines retained his under 17 title at the Newbury Junior Table Tennis Championships held at Kennet School on Saturday 4th of March. Haine's beat Matt Smith of St Barts school in the final and then combined with him to win the junior doubles beating Ben Djekic and left hander Dan Hyde in the final.
Djekic had a fine tournament winning the under 15 final against fellow St Barts student Jason Agar 11-9 in the final set in the best match of the day. Djekic also got to the final of the Junior/Adult doubles with top Newbury mens player Anthony 'Robot' Baker.
Trinity school made it a double success when Holly Brown beat Hayley Gray in 5 close sets to become girls champion. Gray has some great consolation in becoming the first girl to win the under 13 title with young Finnian Macarthy the runner up.
Jenny Ardis from Aldbourne who attends St John's School in Marlborough, won the Langley Cup for sportsmanship and endeavour for her positive attitude in her first tournament.
In the Senior event on Sunday the Mens Singles was won by number one seed Sam Ricks who beat Tony Brown in the final. Brown reached the final of all 5 events he entered. The Ladies singles was won by Celia Hooker with runner up Sue Purton Consolation Singles was won by Jonathan Hopson who defeated Division Three's John Panting in the final.
The Veterans and Div 1 finals were both won by Andy Barnes over team mate Tony Brown.In the vets Brown was 2 games up and leading 10-4 in third but Barnes came back to win 12-10 and take the next two games. but Brown got his revenge by beating Barnes in the Ping Pong tournament
Mens Doubles winners were Sam Ricks and Patrick Garlic who fought off Tony Brown and Andy Barnes in the final
Ladies Doubles title was won by Sue Purton and Celia Hooker from Jenny Tanner and Christine Milne
Andy Barnes and Sue Purton won the Mixed Doubles from Patrick Garlick and Celia Hooker
The Division Two title went to Nester Ceron who won a five setter against Ian Wu
Jeremy Skelton won the Division Three trophy after beating Archie Dyson in a close match
The most entertaining Tournament was the One Point Competition which was won by Jonathan Hopson with Runner up Andy Jeffery
