Week 8 report – w/b 13 October

Division 1 has Misfits on top with 53 points – 3 clear of Torrington A. Division 2 is being lead by Chulmleigh B on 66, 10 ahead of both Holsworthy B and Minions.

Misfits took advantage of playing bottom team Chulmleigh A to post a 10-0 win thanks to Keith le Milliere, Martyn Beer and Daniel Moore. Jon Taylor fought hard with some tight games going against him. Spin Doctors needed resuscitation after Torrington A's visit. Michael Sussex provided stout opposition and won his team's two points. Torrie were led to victory by Kevin Taylor's maximum. Dave Ewen came close to Chris Thompson, losing a tight 5 setter. In the other match, Nets and Edges won 7-3 at Balls of Fury. A particularly good performance from Martyn Eyles with a maximum, ably supported by two from Harry Thomas.

Chulmleigh B had a good  7-3 win against Holsworthy A in division 2. Dave Gray was as consistent as ever with three wins. The doubles win for the Chulmleigh team was hard fought – won 12-10 in the fifth by Harry Collins and Dave Gray. Owen Salisbury had a good five set win for the Holsworthy team. Paddlers versus Holsworthy C was fairly one sided – solid performances from Mike Hill, Rob Gale and Tim Cooke. Littleham, with Dave Stone back, powered 10-0 past the Dolphins who are starting to look stranded at the wrong end of the table. Alan Pomeroy and Mike Bellew were the other conquerors. Another one sided result came from Minions  9-1 win at the Vice. Bill Tregellas and Steve Richardson notched up maximum points. Ernie Maud had a good win to score his team's consolation.

West Buckland had a narrow but praiseworthy win against Simply Smashing. James Raymont was in top form for the Smashers, but consistent scoring from Jai Moore Rob Baker and Alan Briggs won the day. The final match, the Friday night special, saw visitors Despicables head home with a 7-3 win over Chulmleigh Chiefs. Malc Overson lead the way with another solid three points. Richard Nicholls and  Joey Butt, both improving, scored two each for their respective sides. There was a tight battle between Cilla King and Sue Jackson, which was finally settled in favour of Jackson in 5. ( There is nearly a pun there – couldn't quite do it!) Congratulations go to the Chief's Andrew Suliauskas on his first win of the season.
