Steve Richardson's Week 9 report – w/b 20 November
The division1 table is looking close. Misfits and Torrington A are tied on 58 points with Smugglers now in third on 48 but a game in hand. Smugglers and Misfits fought out a 5-5 draw, with many of the ties as close as the scoreline. Daniel Moore won all three of his games but was pushed into 5 by Peter Dunstan. Matthew Thomas vs Martyn Beer was particularly close, with Thomas just edging it. Peter Hedge and Matthew Thomas peoduced a strong performance in the doubles to ensure the draw,
Torrington A were too strong for Balls of Fury, running out 8-2 winners. The Taylors – Ben and Kevin – stitched up their opponents winning three each.
In the other match, Spin Doctors put Chulmleigh A in a twist winning 10- 0, confirming their good start to the season, and cementing Chulmleigh's place at the foot of the division.
In Division 2, Chulmleigh B are looking strong on 74 points, with Holsworthy B second on 62.
The leaders had a good win 8-2 against West Buckland. Dave Gray was Mr Consistent again winning his three. West Buckland's 2 points were won by Jai Moore who is rapidly improving this season. Moore won a 5 set battle against Gerard O'Boyle who in turn recovered to register a good win over Alan Briggs. The doubles was a tough 5 set battle just edged by the Chulmleigh duo.
Holsworthy B had a hard-fought win 6-4 over Simply Smashing. David Streak kept his record going with another maximum. He was pushed by both James Raymont and Jack Thomas, but still didn't drop a game. Raymont led the resistance with two victories.
Holsworthy A won 7-3 at Despicables. Dave Salisbury was on form to win his three, while Malc Overson for Despicables kept up his scoring form with a good two points. There was a very tight game between Richard Nicholls and Nathan Jukes in which the Despicables player just prevailed to gain his side's third point.
Congratulations to the Vice on their first victory of the season, beating Dolphins 7-3. Bob Taylor was on good form to win his three – a particularly close game with Dave Harman. Ernie Maud and Dave Harman winning two for their respective teams.
There were tears in the Minions households as they were stomped on 8-2 by a rampant Paddlers team. Tim Cooke and Rob Gale were too strong and unbeaten on the night. A good doubles win in a close 5 setter by Minion's Dennis Jones and Bill Tregellas provided some consolation.
Chulmleigh Chiefs had a great night securing their first win of the season, 6-4, over Holsworthy C. Joey Butt won all of his three – well done. Matthew Older won a tense battle with Rob Woodhouse, and won two in the evening as did Alan Quilter for the Holsworthy C's.
