Division 2 2018 Singles competition - Vets Handicap 2018 competition

Vets Handicap and Division 2 Singles results.

The last two competitions of the season have just been completed.

The division 2 singles final at Instow was an all-Minion affair between Bill Tregellas and Steve Richardson. They met in the group stage with Bill just coming out ahead. In their group they came equal on points to enter the semis. In the other group, Barry Stearman and Tim Cooke were the top two.

The semis went the way of the Minions – Steve beating Barry with Bill overcoming Tim.

The final -a best of 5 sets – was heading Bill's way at first, with the first two sets  going his way, but Steve took the last three games to take the title.

The Vets Handicap was meant to be at Instow, but the healthy entry list – 23 in all – meant there was a last minute search for a bigger venue. Fortunately, Tarka was available, and the evening saw four groups of good competition.

Group A was won comfortably by Derek Preston, with all sorts of maths needed to sort out Jon Taylor Rob Gale and Jeremy Rickman on equal points. Somehow, it went to Jeremy. Group B was also comfortable at the top – with Mike Hill winning it and Bob Taylor in second.

Group C was won by David Streak, and as time was available there was a play for a second spot between Marcus Berry and Sue Jackson. This went to a sudden death point which went in favour of Marcus. Group D was won by Kevin Taylor despite  having to give loads of points start. Trevor Reynolds was second.

The Quarter finals saw Marcus Berry  beat Derek Preston, Mike Hill beat Trevor Reynolds, Dave Streak saw off Jeremy Rickman and Kevin Taylor held off the challenge of Bob Taylor.

The semi finals were cracking games with Mike Hill playing really well to beat Marcus and Dave Streak doing the same to beat Kevin.

In a best of three leg final, with both competitors fairly tired, Mike Hill took the title

in two, though the second game was very tight and tense at the end. The final scores were 21-13, 21-18.
