Week 11 Report 2018-19

Week 11 Report – 14 Dec 2018

Going into the Christmas break, Misfits are maintaining their lead at the top of division 1. They are 4 points ahead of Smugglers with a game in hand, after a 5-5 draw between the top pair. At the other end of the table, Herons and Chulmleigh B look to be the ones fighting to avoid bottom spot – with the Instow team a point to the good and a game in  hand too.

In the second division, Holworthy D have had a good week. Not only did they have a brilliant 10-0 win over TSTS but their nearest rivals Littleham suffered their first defeat of the season at the hands of Paddlers. The Holsworthy team have stretched their lead to 8 points.

Matthew Thomas was in great form for Smugglers in their draw at Misfits. His three was countered by 2 each from Martyn Beer and Peter Kneil. A doubles win for the visitors earned a creditable draw.

Elsewhere, Balls of Fury are continuing to improve their position. Wim Faassen put in a fine shift - unbeaten all night. With strong support from Lee Farrant with two, the Furies defeated Spin Doctors 6-4. Micheal Sussex provided stiff resistance with two wins for the home side.

Nets and Edges had Dave Streak and Martin Eyles back together and put together a winning performance at Holsworthy A. Dave Streak was player of the match. He was at his consistent best to record three wins. Martin Eyles added two in a 6-4 win. Steve Cragg kept it close with two wins for the Holsworthy team.

A close match at McDonalds and Co. where the points were shared with Chulmleigh A. Kevin Davies and Jon Taylor both claimed two points for the visitors while James Raymont won all three for the Mcs.

The bottom of the table clash between Herons and Chulmleigh B could have been affected by Heron's loss of Bill Tregellas their leading scorer. But Super Sub Rob Herman stepped into the breach with a magnificent treble and Rob Gale added two more. For the visitors Dave Gray scored two with one each for Gerald Luscombe and Greg Anson. Final score 5-5.

In division 2, as above, leaders Holsworthy D cemented their position with a demolition of TSTS. Messrs Taylor, Forsyth and Sillifant too strong on the night.

Captain Tim Cooke led his Paddlers in fine style to a 6-4 win over Littleham. His three were the crucial factor, while Dave Stone and Alan Pomeroy with two each put up stiff resistance.

Holsworthy B had no Christmas cheer for Despicables. Barry Stearman and Jill Knightly were in Scrooge-like mode, each winning all three. The consolation point was gained by Malc Overson.

In a good night for the Holsworthy teams, the C's didn't mess about against the Chiefs. Doug Genini and Alan Quilter both unbeaten with Bob Montague chipping in with two good wins.

Finally, the Vice are picking up these days. Despite strong resistance from Sam Coutu-Oughton who won two for Dolphins, Bob Taylor led the Vice to an 7-3 win winning his three. Chris Isaac and Ernie Maud supported strongly with two points each.
