Week 14 Report 2018-19

Week  18 report  -  26 January 2019

Division 2 is looking increasingly done and dusted, though Littleham will be there waiting for any slip-ups. As it stands, Holsworthy D have a 12 point lead over the Littleham team. This week's results have effectively pushed Holsworthy B and Paddlers out of the title race.

Holsworthy D beat their fellows from the B team 7-3. Brandon Forsyth was top scorer with an impressive treble, while Ashley Taylor backed up with a double. It was far from straight forward though,  as a number of ties went to a fifth set.

Thomas Venn – who is much in demand these days – had a great evening for TSTS against Paddlers, winning his three in style. The two points from Alan Briggs helped the West Buckland based team to a remarkable 7-3 victory.

Holsworthy C had an enjoyable evening at the expense of the Vice. Their 8-2 win came courtesy of a strong performance from Timothy Orchard. He held his nerve to beat Bob Taylor 13 -11 in the fifth, and won his other two bouts. Alan Quilter and Sumiyo Berkeley both won two of their three.

Dolphins and Chulmleigh Chiefs shared the points. There were two wins each for Sam Coutu-Oughton, Trevor Reynolds and Joey Butt. It must have been a long evening as there were a good number of deuce games and five setters.

In division 1, bottom team Chulmleigh B had a rare night of celebration, beating Balls of Fury 6-4. Lee Farrant did all he could to keep the Balls bouncing. He won his three in fine style, while Thomas Venn in his second appearance as a sub this week added a good point for them. However, two wins for Gerald Luscombe and Dave Gray, one from Shaun Clarke and a victory in a very tense 5 set doubles gave the Chulmleigh team the victory.

Nets and Edges kept up the pressure for the third/ fourth slot winning 7-3 at Chulmleigh A. Dave Streak and Martin Eyles were both unbeaten and between them dropped only one game all evening – and that includes the doubles too.

Rob Herman made a guest appearance for Herons and was thrown in at the deep end against Michael Sussex in the opening match. Rob Gale came in at 3 for Herons and settled his team with a solid win against Dave Morgan, picking up a second win in a 5 set match against Dave Ewen. Sub Rob saved his best for a comfortable win over Dave Morgan. Michael Sussex won all three and the 7 – 3 win was secured with a 5 set doubles win.

Other results this awaited at time of writing.
