Week 18 Report 2018-19

Week 18 report

Congratulations to Misfits and Holsworthy D, the divisional winners. The outcomes have been fairly clear for a few weeks, but now it is certain. Misfits have beaten Smugglers in division 1 by 7 points, while Holsworthy D are 27 points ahead of Littleham, who still have one game to play. There are a few games left to play, with the main issues to resolve being which teams fill the last place in their respective divisions. Herons could push Chulmleigh B into last place in Division 1, while Dolphins and The Vice  are competing to avoid last place in division 2.

Misfits settled issues in fine style with a 10-0 demolition of Chulmleigh B.  Dave Gray, sadly, was only able to complete one of his three matches. Keith le Milliere, Martyn Beer and Peter Kneil were just too strong and won the tight games – that's how you win the league, I guess.

Spin Doctors made third place secure by winning 7-3 against Chulmleigh A. This result was helped by the Chulmleigh team only having two players. Rob Herman played one  of his three games this week, winning one  - as did Daves Morgan and Ewen. Jon Taylor had a great night winning his three in some style.

Nets and Edges have pretty much secured 4th place. Even without injured skipper Martin Eyles, the Nets picked up a good win against McDonalds and Co 6-4. Dave Streak won his three, as he has done most of the season, supported by a double from Steve Richardson and one from Ian Rice. James Raymont picked up two of the McDs points.

Holsworthy A enjoyed a good night against Herons. Dave Salisbury and Steve Cragg both won their three contests, with Owen Salisbury winning two in a 9-1 win. Rob Gale picked up the Herons sole point though for a time the doubles pair of Mike Hill and Rob Herman looked good.

In division 2 champions Holsworthy D celebrated by clobbering The Vice 10 – 0. While there were some close games, the Ds did not drop a single one except in the doubles.

Chulmleigh Chiefs have improved over the season. While they lost away to a strong Holsworthy B side, it was only 6-4. Barry Stearman for the Holsworthy team was top scorer winning his three. He had a close game against Joey Butt who won his other two. Doug Genini had two good wins for the home team.

Tim Cooke for Paddlers and Samuel Jennings for Holsworthy C had a cracking contest, settled in Samuel's favour 11-9 in the fifth. He also won his other two matches to help take the Cs to a 7-3 win. Alan Quilter offered good support with two points. Tim Cooke won two points for the Paddlers, while Sumiyo Berkeley and Thomas Venn picked up a point apiece for their respective sides.

Malc Overson had a very long evening against Dolphins. He won his three but played 14 games in the evening, with 5 going to deuce! Then played a doubles that went to five too. Richard Nicholls won his three in fine style as Despicables ran out 6-4 winners.

Top Spin Tail Spinners were led to victory against Holsworthy C by Alan Briggs and Jai Moore. Each picked up two points as did Samuel Jennings for the Holsworthy team. The final score 6-4.
