Week 8 report  - 24 November 2019

Everything still to play for in both divisions as we reach the half way stage in the season. In division 1 Smugglers sit on top with 56 points, from Misfits in second on 52. There are only 11 points between Smugglers and Balls of Fury in sixth place. In division 2, Paddlers are in the prime spot on 58 points, six clear of Littleham, with Chulmleigh Chiefs having a good season in third on 45. You cannot discount Holsworthy B either, sitting on 42 points but with a game in hand.

Smugglers had a good 8-2 win over Holsworthy A, despite the noble (and double) efforts of Mark Beaumont. Martin Babulik won all three for the leaders, with two each from Messrs Hedge and Thomas. Misfits won by the same score against Herons. Keith le Milliere and Martyn Beer winning their three.

Balls of Fury shared the points with Bridgerule. Steve Cragg was the star performer with three wins, while Steve Porter and Pete Freeburn took two for their respective sides. Chulmleigh A had a better evening against the strong Spin Doctors. Kevin Davies didn't need a recount to record two victories in his side's 4 points. The Doctor's six points came courtesy of three from Michael Sussex and two from Dave Ewen.

Ben Taylor was unbeaten against Holsworthy D – but it was not without difficulty. Ashley Taylor was 2-1 up before going down in the fifth. Tim Cooke chipped in with two points as Balazing Paddles won 7-3, while Dave Sillifant led the resistance with two for the home team.

Chulmleigh Chiefs are picking up lots of points recently. Against Dolphins, Dave Gray and Andrew Suliauskas were in fine form – both unbeaten in a 8-2 victory.

Holsworthy C had a close set of games against Despicables, finally going down to a 4-6 defeat. The evening was notable for a first win for Ezra Jukes. Sumiyo Berekely is also going well at the moment, and picked up two wins against difficult opponents. Richard Nicholls was the star performer for the visitors. His three wins were backed up by two from Michael Hill.

Division leaders Paddlers had a close encounter with Littleham, with their slender lead in the table reinforced by a 6-4 victory. There were two wins each for Joe Percival and Sam Coutu-Oughton (Paddlers) and for Littleham's Dave Stone and Mike Bellew.
