League Update 7th October

Graeme Barella was the player in form in the Northumbria League Premier Division drawn match between Springwell A and Cramlington Stingers winning all of his singles and the doubles with Matthew Stephens. Duncan Wraight, standing in for David Graham won two for the Stingers as did Kevin Wilson.

Two each from Jimmy Scope, Chris Blake and Joshua Weatherby gave Saint Chads a 6 – 4 success over N.E. Chinese Association but they all lost  to Chun Yin Yu.

There were a lot of closely fought matches in the other divisions with several ending up all square. Cramlington Tigers seemed to be heading for victory when they led 5 – 3 against North Fire in Division One but Mick Bull pulled it back to 5 –4 and the battle between the two unbeaten players, Barry Hill and Peter Smallcombe was won by Hill to level matters. There was a similar situation in the match between Old England Jacks and Springwell C where Joe Muldowney completed his hat-trick with victory over Mike Hope and Lynne Herrington squared the match by defeating Alan Livingstone.

In  Division Two the Tynedale derby between Matfen B and Newton B saw the home side leading 5 – 3 but they had to be content with a draw.

The young Cramlington Corinthians third division side of Adam Webster, Andrew Matfin and Jamie Hall did well against Matfen D but none of them was able to beat Mark Perrin in another drawn match.

Division four Lions’  Joe Hastings, Daniel McManus and Sree Kanakala surprised Newton C to get a  draw although none of them could beat Wyn Thompson. The  Jaguars side  came from 4 – 0 down to draw with the young Dynamos team,  77 year old Aubrey Drapkin defeating 13 year old John Hogg in the deciding match.
