League update 23rd October
The Northumberland County Veterans team of Andrew Wilkinson, Eddie Smith, Jim Stamas and Christine Burke played their first matches in the County Championships Veterans Premier Division, having been promoted last season. Unfortunately they lost their opening match 2 - 8 to Warwickshire, both of their sets coming from Wilkinson.  They fared better in their second one with the three men winning one singles each and Smith and Wilkinson winning the mens doubles encounter. Burke and Wilkinson won one each in their next game against Kent, Wilkinson and Smith won the mens doubles and Burke combined with Wilkinson to take the mixed but they went down 4 - 6
The Northumbria League champions, Cramlington Casuals rested Wilkinson and Steve Penman when they played their Tigers team but still ran out 9 - 1 winners with young Peter Smallcombe unbeaten as was Marc Cotton. Gareth Pearson won the lone set for the Tigers, beating University student Kate Roberts.
Old England Jacks beat N.E.C.A. B team 8 - 2 and have now won their opening four matches in Division One. Jacob Helm and Joseph Muldowney won all of their sets with Lynne Herrington getting one but losing out to Bernie Morris and Ken Lee.
A close match in division two saw Newton B and Mount D share the spoils with man of the match Newton's Chas Robertson winning all of his matches.  His team mate John Henderson got two with Bill Edwards doing likewise for Mount whose Mike Bradley and Mick Hope got one each and Hope and Edwards were successful in the doubles.
The top of the table clash in the third division between Brandon Bravehearts and Matfen Tribunes saw the home side taking a 4 - 2 lead and seemingly  set to lower the colours of the visitors for the first time this season. But  all round performances from Nigel Tree who defeated Paul Lupton and Stephen Pattinson, Mark Perrin who had success against the same players and Dave Swan who beat Lupton and Ryan Morton  saw Matfen to a 6 - 4 victory.
Duncan Hindmarsh notched a hat trick for Ouston C in Division Four and with support from Any Harris(2) and Dave Nichols with whom he won the doubles his side beat Matfen Cohorts 7 - 3
