League update 25th August

Northumbria Table Tennis League Weekly Report – 25 August 2019

This week saw the final games to close out the Northumberland summer league. The most significant games were in Division 3 where Cramlington Ravens had two games to play and the results would depend on whether they could snatch the top spot from Cramlington Corinthians or not. In their first game Cramlington Ravens overcame Ouston A with a 6-4 win. Israel Shodedinde was player of the match for the Ravens winning his three games with Jack Cairns winning two games and Roy Hugill winning one game. This meant that the Ravens needed to secure four points or more in their second games to secure top spot. In their second game the result was never in doubt as the Ravens overcame bottom of the table Tyneside TTC C with a 7-3 win to finish top of division 4. Israel Shoedinde, Jack Cairns and Roy Hugill all won two games; Jack Cairns and Roy Hugill combined to win the doubles. The experienced Steve Dickinson was player of the match for Tyneside winning his three games.

In Division 2 the final game was a bottom of the table clash between Newton and Backspin TTC A. Despite gaining their first win of the season with a 6-4 win Backspin still ended up in bottom place one point below Newton. David McAllister and Alex Nicholl both won two games and Lynsey Irving won one game for Backspin. The Newton points were gained by Rob Lawson and Jon Henderson who both won two games.

There were two games in Division 3 both of which involved Tyneside TTC B. In the first game Tyneside defeated Cramlington Spartans 6-4 with James Moore and Jim Robertson winning two games for Tyneside and Chas Robertson one game. For the Spartans Oliver Ho was player of the match for the sixth time in the summer league winning his three games. In their second game Tyneside lost 8-2 to Brandon Bullets, James Robertson and James Moore gaining the consolation points for Tyneside. Jamie Westwater and Paul Dale both won their three games and they were supported by John Spencer who won one game.

In Division 5 Cramlington Magpies won their first game of the summer league beating Ouston B 7-3. James Ainsley was in good form for the Magpies winning his three games and was supported by David Neal who won two games and Andrew Smith who won one game. In the all Cramlington affair Cramlington Jaguars edged out Cramlington Dragons with a 6-4 win. Mick Sursham , Gavin Wilson and Abdel Warayet all won two games for the Jaguars but the Dragons’ Pauline Long was player of the match winning her three games. In the second all Cramlington affair Cramlington Knights defeated Cramlington Magpies 7-3. Patrick Easton and Matthew Mastaglio both won their three games for the Knights.
