League update 19th January

Northumbria Table Tennis League Weekly Report – 19January 2020

Entry forms are now available for the two Northumberland tournaments via the league (TT365) web-site. The Northumberland Junior tournament takes place on Friday 14 February and the Northumberland Closed tournament on Saturday 15 February at The Sporting Club, Cramlington. In response to feedback an Over 60s competition has been added to the schedule for the Closed tournament for the first time and we are aiming to include a plate competition as well.  

The Northumbria league Junior team of Oliver Ho, Jack Cairns, Alan Roskilly and Harry Veitch were in action in the National Junior league. They won their three games against Ormesby C, Darlington A and Ormesby B which puts them into top place of the seven team group with one more round of games to play.

In the Premier Division there was a straightforward 9-1 win for NECA A away to Cramlington Casuals. Adam Webster and Andrew Wilkinson both won their three games for NECA. Only Duncan Wraight offered any resistance for the Casuals beating Lee Tinkler in a close 5 end game to secure the point for the Casuals. Matfen Senators had a good 6-4 win against Cramlington Stingers. Stpehn Oxley was player of the match winning three games for Matfen; Alex Holliday won two games and Neil Forsyth one game to secure the win. With Graeme Barella back in the team Mount A had an 8-2 win against Old England Jacks. Barella won his three games with Ant Ainley and Phil Prady both winning two games. 

In Division 1 Mount D had a straightforward 9-1 win over Newton A. The Mount team of Ethan Brown, Justin Tetlowand Shirley Gelder proved too strong for their opponents. Top placed Newcastle University had an 8-2 over Ouston A with the University players Jeremy Hamshaw and Robin Francis both winning three games. Prudhoe B had a 7-3 win over Matfen Centurions. Prudhoe’s Jordan Dove was player of the match winning three games with Duncan Fraser and Ryan Campbell winning two games each. Only Matfen’s Chris Kilsby offered any resistance winning two games. There was a close game between Cramlington Tigers and Tyneisde A which ended in a 5-5 draw. Player of the match was Cramlington Jimmy Scope who won three games. 

In Division 2 Mount E had a straightforward 9-1 win over Cramlington Swifts. Alan Livingstone and Charlie Mouzonboth winning three games. The consolation point for Cramlington came from Anthony Doyle who beat Will McCallum. There was closer game for second placed Old England Crocks who narrowly beat Cramlington Spartans 6-4. In the all Cramlington game between Cramlington Flacons and Cramlington Reivers it was the Falcons who came out of top with an 8-2 win. The Falcons Oliver Ho was player of the match winning three games including a win over the experienced Bernie McArdle who had been unbeaten in the league until this game. 

In Division 3 the top two teams continue to stretch their lead at the top of the table. Mount F had an 8-2 win over MatfenWhitley Chapel. William Edwards and Michael Bradley both winning their three games for the Mount team. Brandon Bravehearts had a 9-1 win over Cramlington Jaguars. Jamie Westwater and Paul Dale both winning three games with Alan Perry winning two games. Cramlington Cobras secured a 6-4 win over Saints. The Cobras team of Alan Heldey, James Ainsley and Steve Ralph all won two games each but player of the match went to the Saint’s John Cook who won three games. Tyneside C had a 6-4 win over Newton B with player of the match going to Tyneside’s Leo Conn who won three games.

In Division 4 Cramlington Dragons had a straightforward 10-0 win over Cramlington Colts which moved them back to the top of the table. The Dragons team of Pauline Long, Stephen Baxter and Paul Athey proved too string for their opponents. Cramlington Dynamos had a 7-3 win over Cramlington Lions. Alan Roskilly was player of the match winning three games for the Dynamos. Cramlington Magpies secured a 6-4 win over Cramlington Knights. The Magpies team of Joel Dyter, Nathan Hume and Sara Haddi all won two games each but player of the match went to the Knight’s Jessica Yang who won three games.
