Nuneaton & District table Tennis League

Division 1 continues to be a closely fought league, and 6 weeks into the season, Ambleside E continue in top spot, having briefly relinquished that position to NALGO MIRA in week 5 who had a 9-1 win against Ajax Wolvey D, whilst Ambleside lost their first match of the season 6-4 against Ajax Wolvey C, who are 2 places below them in the league. Paul Calloway led the way for Wolvey with a maximum to continue at the top of the league averages having only dropped one set so far. The following week Ambleside regained the number one position with an emphatic 10-0 win against NALGO MIRA to push the brief league leaders down to 4th position. Stockingford C move up to the 2nd spot only 4 points below the leaders with two good wins beating Ambleside H 7-3, then going one better with an 8-2 beating of Ajax Wolvey D. In both matches Leigh Morris continued his good form with a maximum in both matches to keep him in 2nd spot in the averages. Ajax Wolvey C also had good wins with the win against the league leaders as mentioned above, and followed this up with an 8-2 win against a below strength Crescent team. Ajax Wolvey D drop down to the 5th spot, following their two defeats on the same points as Ambleside H in 6th spot. They had a win against the team 2 points below them, Stockingford B beating them 7-3 with Lee Bennett making a maximum for Ambleside. Crescent continue to struggle in bottom spot with team problems not helping their effort.

In Division 2 NALGO MIRA 2 continue unbeaten in the top spot, and look like the team to beat. They had a good 10-0 win against a weakened Ambleside A team. Steve Tandy made a maximum which keeps him at the top of the league averages, and the team 2 points ahead of 2nd placed Stockingford A with a match in hand. Stockingford A beat bottom placed team Ambleside R 9-1 with Mark Randle and Tom Hackett both making a maximum. In 3rd spot comes Ajax Wolvey B who had an 8-2 win against Ambleside C with team captain Steve Hobley taking all 3 sets and joining Graham Bolstridge in the doubles to seal the win. This leaves both Steve and Graham in equal 2nd place in the averages, together with Tom Hackett of Stockingford A. Two Ambleside teams, A & C follow in 4th and 5th position respectively with 5 points separating them, although the C team do have a match in hand of their sister team. They met in week 6 and the C team ran out 6-4 winners thanks to a maximum from their Captain, Dave Jowett. Fire Brigade are struggling with team problems and find themselves in 6th position followed by Ambleside R, who did register their first win against their nearest rival by 7-3 against a depleted Fire Brigade team.

Division 3 is headed by Stockingford D who remain undefeated, and it is difficult to see this changing throughout the season. They are 22 points ahead of the 2nd placed team already, adding to their tally of wins with a 9-1 win over Weddington Social, with Jamie Watson picking up the only point for Weddington. In the two places below them and vying for the 2nd promotion spot are two Ajax Wolvey teams, their  G and F teams, both with 31 points apiece, but the G team showing in 2nd place due to their superior number of wins, but the F team do have a match in hand of their sister team. The G team had two good 7-3 wins, with one over the bottom placed team, Griff & Coton, and the other against Ambleside G. Sam De Lima playing well for the G team with a maximum in both matches. The F team also had two 7-3 matches in the same period, but they lost one against Ambleside G,  and then reversed this with a win against another Ambleside team the D team, with John Steer making a maximum for Wolvey in the latter match.  In 4th spot come Weddington Social in their 2nd year in the league, and showing great improvement. They followed up their defeat to the league leaders with a 10-0 win again Griff & Coton, with Jamie Watson man of the match, ably supported by Kieron Watson and Cameron Messenger all with maxima in the match. Ambleside G are below them in 5th position following the win against Wolvey F thanks to a maximum from Tomas Kazkierczak. In 6th spot is another Ambleside team the D team, who just had the one match against Wolvey F losing 7-3, and in the bottom spot is Griff & Coton still looking to register their first win of the season.

Whitmore Cup

After 3 matches in the Whitmore Cup competition in Division 1 Ambleside E and Stockingford D are in position to go through to the quarter finals both on 20 points with Ajax Wolvey B 6 points behind in 3rd place.

In Division 2 Ambleside H are well ahead on 24 points with Stockingford A and Ajax Wolvey G following on behind both with 15 points.

In Division 3 Stockingford C hold top spot together with Ambleside C on 16 points and Ambleside D some way behind in 3rd position on 8 points.
