Newspaper Report –Week 4

Division 1

Werneth A entertained Honeywell B in a thrilling 5-5 result. Man of the match Gary Newton won all 3 and partnered Rob Carter to win the doubles defeating Mick Pellowe/Dave Holmes 11-8 in the 5th game. Karen Hill had 2 five game matches against father and son Rob and Paul Carter losing 6-11 to Rob and defeating Paul 16-14. Honeywell  A ‘s (Darryl(3)Simon(2)Dave(2) 8-2 win over Rosehill puts them in 2nd place and Rosehill at base of the division.  Simon Collins winning their 2 sets.

Coldhurst A suffered their 2nd defeat at the hands of Saddleworth CC.  This time the  B team of Nathan (2)Duncan(3) and Mattie(3)with Simon Walsh(1) being Coldhurst’s  only success. However, the result in no way reflects the battle that took place between these two teams.  Hollinwood A’s    M Shaw(3)B Elliott(2)I Quinn(2)8-2 win over Uppermill A (D Taylor(2) places them in top spot for the moment.

Division 2

Unison’s B’s  Andrew Tarpey(3) and Jacob Reilly(3)  comfortable winners in their match against Hollinwood C is clear evidence  that University life is good for Table Tennis. Brian Huskinson defeated George Marrow but losing to Paul Hutchinson and Joe Redikin. The clash between Honeywell C were too strong for their D team winning 7-3 Peter Fowler(2) Tommy Ryan(3) Alan Sheppard(2)and Brian Higgins(1)Ken Dunkerley replying. This was no easy win, with 5 five game and 3 four game matches involved.

Division 3

Gilders 5-0 up at the half way stage, needed a win in 5th game of the doubles (last match of night) to keep their winning ways. Deaf A’s push to return to 2nd Division was again challenged although they managed to come out 6-4 winners against Honeywell E for whom Abagail Griffith won 3 sets.

Division 4

Mass Khan is the only player to keep his 100% record after playing 9 games.  However , Owls B’s John Tanner, Andy Robinsons and Gerald Lennox made him work to hold onto that achievement. Three each from Andrew and Jason gave a mighty 9-1 victory to Thornham CC.  Deaf C’s Prakash Bhojani(3) and Mamad  Nejad(1)  secured a 5-5 draw against Coldhurst C for whom all payers contributed. Unison E defeated Hollinwood G 7-3 with victories for Mike O Gara(3) Jacob Sharp(2) and Adrian Borell. New signing David Greenwood(2) and Sasi  responding.

Division 5

Denshaw’s  A and B’s match resulted in a 9-1 win for the  A team, who have promotion in their sight. Wins for Andrew Tyas (3)Gordon Allen (2) and Dave Renton (3) with Graham Nield (1) replying for B team. Mark and Marty Englanders 3 sets each plus 2 from Phil Ambrose gave Our Lady’s their first win of the season,  Ed Stacy replying for Tame Valley. A third consecutive win for Unison F Brian Eaton(2) Jamail Akhter(2) Angelo Robles(3) gave them a comfortable win over Hollinwood F with Gareth Hey (2) responding.
