Bartholomew School were worthy winners, beating Marlborough School 7-1 and Faringdon Community College 6-2. Faringdon beat Marlborough 7-1 to secure second position.
Well done to Luke Perkins, Aiden Casey, Dan Thomas and Balazi Bucsasyi.
Winners – Gosford Hill School, Kidlington
This was a fantastic competition with a series of tense and exciting matches.
In Group 1 Gosford edged top place with a 5-3 over Marlborough School and a 4-4 draw with Blessed George Napier, Banbury. BGN then drew with Marlborough 4-4 to pip Marlborough for second place. George Slater of Marlborough deserves credit for two excellent wins in the match against BGN, beating Dylan Morgan, a National Cadet League Player, in an exciting match. He also beat Cooper Whitford, another NCL Player, in the match against Gosford. His only defeat was against the nationally ranked Jack Smith, who finished the day undefeated.
Group 2 was more straightforward, with Magdalen College School too strong for Faringdon Community College and Bartholomew School. Magdalen’s number 1, Kiarash Shaddel, another nationally ranked player, led his team well. Bartholomew School defeated Faringdon to secure second position.
The semi-finals saw Gosford defeat Bartholomew 6-2 and Magdalen and BGN play out a tense 4-4 draw. A doubles match then saw BGN secure a finals place.
The final was therefore a repeat of the earlier group match and was again a tight affair. However, Jack Smith, well supported by Cooper Whitford, Adam Jenner and Mohammed Yousef, secured a 6-2 victory, although four of the wins went the full distance.
