NCL Trial Results

September 18th, 2017               Kidlington Forum

It was a pleasure to welcome four players from Banbury, three of whom were appearing at Kidlington for the first time. Toby Dow laid claim to a place in the Oxford A team by beating Bertie Anstis at 11-9 in the 3rd, although this result was later reversed in a rematch, 13-11 in the 3rd. Ethan Morgan made a slow start, swept aside by Pelin Karabulut 11-4, 11-4, but by the end had found form and confidence to beat Bertie 11-8, 11-8. Pelin led Cooper Whitford 9-5 and 10-6 in the decider, but Cooper fought back well, only to lose 9-11. There were also fluctuating fortunes for David Brice and 10-year-old Joseph Fisher, who played out two exciting matches, ending all square. We were impressed with Joseph, who was by some way the youngest player taking part but already looking well coached and talented. Tom Williams made a welcome return, beating both David and Joseph.

With Dylan Morgan, Edward Davis, Adam Jenner, Miles Davis, Josh Herlihy and Jakub Jedrzejowksi to be added to this squad, we will just about have enough players to field the four teams I have entered in November, but there won’t be any scope for absenteeism!
