After Week 5
After only 5 weeks of matches, only two teams remain unbeaten in the  whole of the Potteries League and they are the Norton A & B teams in the Premier Division, who  won’t play each other until the last match of the first half and none of the other teams look strong enough this season to take any points from either of them.

The Norton B team of Chris Bailey, Paul Malkin & Neil Hough have only dropped 1 set so far and have a better sets average than their A team. Penkhull A are currently 4th and they entertain the Norton B side next Wednesday, whilst the Norton A team are also away at MESC A on Tuesday.  The Bradwell  B & C teams are propping up the rest, but the B team had a good 7-3 win over the C team and moved of the bottom spot. Penkhull B also only have 2 points so far and next  Tuesday face visitors Bradwell C, so it could be a tough match for both teams. Looking at the averages, it isn’t a surprise that the top 6 places are held by the Norton A & B teams, but Bradwell C’s, Chris Elkin is playing well and comes in at 7th place with an 80% average.

Surprise in Division 1 saw leaders MESC B held to a draw by newly promoted Penkhull D. John Askey and Callum Smith for Penkhull both took 2 each with Danny Sullivan for MESC also taking 2. Norton D were demoted from the Premier Division and after an initial couple of draws in the first two weeks, seem to have found their form and are now in second spot, closely followed by their own E team. Wednesday sees the Norton E team take on MESC B which should be another close match. Out of the players who have completed at least half the matches, Kidsgrove C’s Edy Barbatel tops the averages with just over 86%, followed by Tony Stanway from the Norton D team, with Danny Sullivan (MESC B), Cyril Merriman (Norton D) and Ken Perry (Bradwell E), all having more than an 80% average.

In Division 2 there are no easy matches and the standard is higher than ever. MESC D and Norton K share the spoils at the top and they had a 5-5 all draw last week, with MESC D having a very slight sets advantage. Norton H are only 1 point behind and MESC E come in at 4th place.  The MESC  E team take on Norton H on Wednesday, whilst the Norton K team take on visitors Kidsgrove E on Tuesday, whose George El-Nimr  is currently 3rd in averages with just over 90%. Robert Warman from the Norton K team tops the averages with a 100% record, but Patrick Hall from the MESC D team also has a 100% record, but hasn’t played as many games.
