2017 Closed Tournament News Update Please Read

To:  All Romford League Players.

The closing date has passed for entries to the 2017 Closed Tournament. The Committee recently met to review the entries and decide whether the numbers were sufficient to make the running of the Tournament on the 19th March practical. Unfortunately the entries received are well short of the numbers from past seasons and as a consequence the Committee have decided not to run a Tournament this season. The organisational undertaking required to hold the Tournament against the players taking part does not balance out.

Obviously for those who have sent in entries this is not a welcomed decision and the Committee did not make it lightly. A lot of time was spent in discussing why the numbers had dropped. Could it be due to a weekend? Not enough prize money? Maybe players don’t want a Tournament. Clearly if we wish to continue with a Tournament for the future then we need to improve participation from League players. If anyone has ideas or comments to make that could be adopted or discussed, then the Committee would welcome hearing from you. The last time a Tournament was not held was back in 2011, again due to lack of numbers.

Arrangements will be made to reimburse those who have paid their fees to enter and on that note recognition is given to the players from Maylands Green who contributed the bulk of the entries received.

Please take the time to consider ways in which we can ensure we run a Tournament for next season and send you ideas to the Committee.
