Rotherham Advertiser Report Week Seven

Lucie in the Sky - Star

Star of the week goes to Lucie Smith of Scorpions J. Despite languishing at the bottom of the League, Scorpions battle every week to try and achieve their first point. On this occasion Lucie managed to take her first double win of the season but rival junior players Nick Wootton, Adam Szabo and Lewis Ellams of Scorpions I came out 8 – 2 winners. Adam the player of the match with a maximum.

Mick Brownlow showed his experience taking all three against Scorpions H. The match went the distance with Stag B 5 - 4 up with one to play. Youngster Josh Drake had to beat Brownlow to take a point on the night but despite a nail biter, he lost 8 in the fifth.

In Division Two Edmund Lau, Andy Saxton and Gary Cooper all made a brace of wins to overcome Trevor Bland, Geoff Sanderson and Ron Watson to give Scorpions D a 6 – 4 win over Clifton D. Also in the division Dave Sayner, free from the stresses of Competition Secretary, showed new inspiration to take a maximum for Mason Arms E who beat Scorpions E 6 – 4. Steve Wilson helped with two wins also.

The biggest surprise of the week came in the top division when struggling Clifton A battled for a point against current title holders Mason Arms B. Tony Lingard, Wilf Ward and Terry Curran striking for Clifton. Scorpions A continued their charge with a 9 – 1 drubbing of second place Phoenix A.

In the middle of the division JSM and Phoenix B battled it out for a well earned and fairly deserved draw. JSM came back from  4-1 down and 5-3 down mainly thanks to Pete Morgan who beat Cliff Glaves in game nine of the night and teaming up with Dave Kirkup in the doubles to get the point.
