Scorpions Strike First

The new season of the Rother Valley Table Tennis League is now in full flow and week 6 saw the first of three clashes between last year's top two, Scorpions A and Mason Arms B (JSM B as was). Scorpions came out 7-3 winners on this first meeting with maximums from Mark Short and Brad Wood who also took the doubles. This opens up a 3 point lead for Scorpions at this early stage.

JSM veterans Jimmy Jeickles, Pete Morgan and Dave Kirkup notched up their third win of the season at Mason Arms C despite a brave pair of wins from Matt Bacon. Pete Morgan struck three times for his best match of the season so far.

In the middle division Phoenix C turned out a strong and experienced team of Shaun Alvey, Stuart Element and Mohammed Arshid to see off Stag A 9 -1. Pete Eyre was the only scorer for Stag, saving the whitewash.

In the Clifton derby, the C team overcame the B team with maximums from Jim Pugh, Richard Horsfield and a brace from Terry Curran. This puts them second place just one point behind Phoenix.

At the top of Division 3 Phoenix F and Scorpions G still run neck and neck, both undefeated, with Phoenix just edging it on sets won. Scorpions Phil Richardson and Lorraine swift also hold the top 2 spots in the leading scorers for that division.

Lower down Scorpions K notched up another victory defeating their club mates in the J team 8-2. Alex Selway and Ray Trent both remaining undefeated on the night.
